It never hurts to have a passport and it shouldn't take more than a week or so to get one. However if not possible, we have no problem crossing over to the USA, though if you have never been to Canada, I think both you and your wife will enjoy yourselves, once you get used to the monopoly money. lol

Well actually you can with a Canada TRP. I worked on the railroad and I believe several guys used this crossing over to Montreal.

My kids both got theirs in under two weeks, even thought they tell you expect 6 - 8 weeks.

That's quick. We renewed ours last year and it took 5 weeks.

We went to the falls last year and stayed on the US side because of the kids. We were told by a friend who lives in Toronto that we could go to Canada with out a passport but we wouldn't get back to the US. This summer we are getting the kids passport cards which will allow them to cross either way and we have passports.

Our passports came in about 10 days. It depends if they find anything questionable in the background check. Then it will be delayed while they snoop around.
