All of a sudden, my computer has started to slow down. It just takes a little longer for the webpages to pop up. It is more annoying than anything. I have a cable modem and called cox and they said everything checked out OK. I also ran AVG anti-spyware and that has not fixed the problem.

Any ideas?

are you running the new Internet Explorer 7? If so, thats probably whats slowing down your machine.
I did everything you mentioned here before seeing a thread a week ago here at Jack's about getting rid of IE7. I got rid of it and went back to IE6 and my machine is back to being itself again.

If you have that AVG program in your start up it might be causing you to slow down.

I do not have IE 7. I did delete some old files and I am not sure what defragging is. This just happened literally overnight. Is there some way I can check to see if some processes are running that would be slowing it down. What is ieexplorer.exe? It seems to be using a lot of energy.

ieexplorer.exe is adaware, don't confuse it with iexplorer.exe

Try going here and doing an online scan:
http://www.ewido.net/en/onlinescan/

Or you can download their program for a trial. You are also going to have to figure how to boot into safe mode on your computer.

Sometimes you push F1, F8, F10, F12 right after a reboot before you see the windows screen,t hat is the most effective way to remove spyware

Defrag---> go to start menu...accessories...system tools...disk defrag

Maybe make the switch over to Mozilla Firefox, a lot less spyware and problems.
