As far as I know, there is no cure for gout. You can have symptomatic treatments for gouty attacks, and measures to increase the length of the symptom-free periods between attacks. Gouty arthritis is actually most prevalent in Pacific Islanders ie. Filipinos, Samoans, and it afflicts people of all races. 90% are men usually over 30 yrs old. Gout attacks can be a result of other diseases that you have that increases uric acid build up in your body, such as myeloproliferative, lymphoproliferative disease, cancer, psoriasis, kidney disease, starvation, diabetes, or very commonly drug induced such as thiazide or loop diuretics for high blood pressure. Alcohol binge is commonly associated with increased attacks so should be used wisely. A high liquid intake to help you urinate more than 2 liters a day or more will help in urate excretion and minimize the precipitation of the crystals. But once you have a gouty attack, no matter how much herbal meds, fluid you take, or food, the only thing that will help with the pain is NSAIDs like Ibuprofen, and Colchicine that can be prescribed by your doctor to shorten your attacks. Steroid injection can be used to your joint when you can't take NSAIDs for whatever reason. There are some other prescription meds such as Allopurinol, Probenecid, Sulfinpyrazone that you can take to help excrete uric acid thus decrease the frequency of the attacks, but many people don't like to be on meds chronically, and there're side effects that can be severe for some people, so definitely talk to your doc if you're interested. Bottom line is that it's another one of those diseases that is a pain in the ass but not life threatening. Hope this helps.
