I see where the clarity of the Diamond is important. I just don't want to be taken for a fool. I have been to 6 places here in Vegas and the ones I liked most were Bailey Banks and Biddle and The Tower of Jewels.

I am looking for a princess cut, platinum based ring. I want something different for my mamita and want to know if anyone had any suggestions.

Any other places in Vegas that may be good?

u need to find a discount broker. Retail markup is 200-300%.

As far as clarity, a diamond is graded on how many carbon spots it has. SI 1 stands for Slightly Imperfect, 1 spot. I think color is more important. The color scale starts at A for perfect/white. U don't want any M color diamond. Get a G or better. Have fun, I learned a lot shopping for an engagement ring 10 years ago.

Snake....

Snake....

go to www.mondera.com (sorry jack)...

Read up on diamonds as much you can !

Then there are plenty of discount diamond guys online that will ship you the diamond and you can take it locally to get it set.

They will bill your CC and ship it with CERTIFICATION via FED-EX.

You MUST buy a diamond that is GIA certified.

I can give you ONE HUGE PIECE OF ADVICE !

DO NOT spend a fortune on a diamond ring unless your loaded.

You can buy a very nice 1-1.25 carat/platnium setting for $5000 and under...

Good Luck ! I know one of the best Diamond guys in Miami.

If you interested let me know I can call him set it up and give you his phone #.

I used Blue nile dot com. You can build a ring right on that website. I actually went to BAILEY BANKS AND BIDDLE and asked them for the same ring I built online at Blue Nile. I told them I wanted G clarity, a very good cut, si clarity and 1.10 carats. Platinum setting. They told me they couldn't do that for under 8500.00. I got that ring for 5900,.00 at blue nile. 30 day guarantee and they guaratee it will appraise for more than you paid for it. I took it to Baily Banks and biddle for chits and giggles, they appraised it at 10.5!! I then told them what I paid!!
That was actually the lowest appraisal I got. The best was 12,200!! Obviously that was the one I used for insurance. You can't tell the difference in D color or G color by eye,so that is where you can save a little money. FYI
Good luck

mmmm.

mmmm.

Best bet is to go to Kohl's and buy a $55.00 Quibic Zerconia Ring, because after you say I DO, the first time you piss her off she will cut you off like a fat man in a buffet line and you'd wished you had saved the money!
gl to all

Don't know anything bout good diamonds but can tell you a little trick on bad ones. While it is hard to spot carbon spots in diamonds, if you simply wet a tissue or toilet paper and place it on the diamond the carbon spots will magically appear.
Its a little "Show Me" trick I picked up in Missouri :)

Snakeoiler - good luck with your search!

Smashmouth - I have a friend who had the same situation that you described. Bought a ring through a dealer that had it appraised for over two times what he paid for it.

Most people seem to agree that a wholesale distributor is the way to go with diamonds. My question is: how would you rank the importance of the 4 C's in choosing a ring? From what I've read it seems to go - Cut, Color, Clarity, Carat. I'm just starting to research this topic and it seems overwhelming at times. Any additional help or info appreciated.

Snakeoiler, buy the ring at a wholesale club. Costco or Sams. (unless you get hooked up from someone here) Mark-up is 2 or 3 to 1!!!!!!

Best of luck Bro!!!!!!!

I have a friend who is a jewelry wholesaler and he told me that the rings at Costco were the best deal you will find.

I got lucky and had a family heirloom to use, so I just had it reset with new secondary stones. But I would check these places before buying anywhere.

My only piece of advice is do a lot of homework. Check out and compare all of the places that people tell you to. You will thank yourself for time spent later on.

Good luck!

Don't spend beyond your means and don't buy one too big or too small. If you do, you will get unwanted attention from the in-laws.
