Alright this is gonna be a bit of a long post but I gotta get some advice.
I am a youngin compared to some of the people on this forum. Just turned 18 about 6 months ago. I am going to a local college and live with my dad and stepmom. I am by no means a racist, but from recent experiences may be a bit byast. We moved into the house we live in now last October, and have been nothing since harrassed ever since.
The family that lives next door is a black family. They tried to by our house before we bought it, but their finances fell through, opening the door for my dad to buy it. They own several rental properties in the area and planned to do the same with this. This family has resented us ever since and have been giving us shit about it. Anywhere from damaging our property and vehicles to threatening to kill us.
The family on the other side (the Queers, yes that is their last name) of the black family are white. The same situation happened over there as far as the Day's (the black family) trying to buy it and the deal falling through. He has been harrassing them constantley too.
The worst part about the whole situation is that the police won't do anything to this guy because of his race. If a white man threatened to kill a black kid, he would be thrown in jail, right? Well I guess its ok for a black man to threaten a white kid because that is what he did, and the police have done nothing. He has also done other things warranting files being charged against him, but nothing happens.
Well things finally went bad in May.
On May 16, two of the Day kids were playing with fireworks in their backyard. My dad and I watched them purposely launch a bottle rocket into the opened door of the Queers garage. The kids ran, the fire department and police came, but nothing caught on fire. The police told us and the Queers that the kids would be charged and arrested, but nothing was ever done.
On May 17, the father in the Queer's family (Mark), overheard the father of the Day's (Ed) telling his kids to take a baseball bat to the Queer kids. Later that day, two of the Day kids beat up one of the Queer kids, but the police did nothing.
On May 18, another one of the Queer boys was beat up by two of the Day kids. The police came, but did nothing. My dad is a paramedic so he went over the Queers to check the kid out because he had his head hit off of the sidewalk. My dad told the police officer that someone was gonna get killed if the police didn't do anything. Well a little bit later in the day, Ed Day, his wife, and 16 yr old daughter, took a baseball bat to the heads of Mark Queer and his wife. I saw the whole incident because about 30 seconds earlier I was speaking with Mark. My dad was first person on scene, and they ended up flying both Mark and his wife to Pittsburgh, they both would be ok.
The police arrested Ed and his wife. They spent 6 hours in jail before posting 10 percent of the $25000 combined bail. Two days later Ed was rearrested for violating his bail by threatening to "finish the job" on Mark's wife. He spent another week in jail before getting out again, this time on $70,000 straight cash. The preliminary hearing was held and the charges stuck, and we are now waiting for trial. No date has been set yet.
The daughter of Ed Day, was never arrested, but charges were filed against her. She is being charged as a juvenile, but her hearing has not yet taken place.
Ed and his family are out of jail, and are allowed to stay at the residence between my family and the Queers. They are allowed no contact with victims of witnesses, but continue to push the limits with that. Just last night he blocked are driveway in with one of his vehicles so my stepmom could not pull in. We contacted the police but yet again nothing was done.
The house we live in is a beautiful 3 story victorian with 6 bedrooms. We have put a great deal of work into the house since moving in. However, we are trying to decide if we would be better off moving out, or to stay and hope this asshole goes to jail.
Any advice or comments appreciated.
