Looking to purchase a couple of timeshare weeks. Have pretty much done all the research pro/con on the timeshare issue. Typically I take 2 vacations a year, over the past two years am pretty sure I have spent more than we would for two high season timeshare weeks (Sandals, Mexico, Flordia etc) and am now looking to invest in this for the long term.

Looking for a company with:
* big catalog of properties, preferably worldwide.
* ability to bank unused weeks
* ease of use in terms of switching from one time period to another.

Thanks man, this is exactly the stuff I am looking for.

Do they have a catalog that you can exchange through? For example you dont want to go to Florida this year, instead you want to go to XYZ?

Ace,

I have sold and owned timeshare units (RCI). Are you looking at a particular resort or area, or are you more interested in trading.
If your more into trading, there are many resort that are sold out that have resale programs available usually below market value.

I'm more interested in trading.

Basically willing to buy, say two top/peak weeks at a resort, with an eye on mostly trading those weeks in and going a couple of different places each year for one week.

I have purchased with the Hyatt vacation club and it has turned out to be the best $ I have ever spent. They have 6 resorts that you can exchange with(Incline village,NV, Sunset Harbor and Beach House, both in Key West, Beaver Creek CO, Puerto Rico, and Breckenridge Co) and a third opening in Key West another in Carmel Ca and they are seasching for another Carribean location. You can exchange your points with a company called Interval International and choose from a phone book size catalouge of locations all over the world that you can travel to. Too much more benefits to explain here but if you have any questions dont hesitate to ask.

Taipans can you explain how that works?

Basically I would be looking to buy a two week block worth enough "points" that we could exchange it and go virtually anywhere we want in that catalog for two vacaions (one week each) per year. While I know the rates are higher for certain time periods, when I think about the money we dropped to go to Sandals or other all inclusives in Mexico, it is more than worth it when thinking long term.

So how did that work, you purchsed a time/location through Hyatt and that is worth XXX number of points in the catalog?

Is there a web site where I could request more info/catalog etc.

Thanks a lot for the info this is exactly what I am looking for.

I can save sellers and buyers of timeshare a great deal of money. Visit www.vacationregister.com and contact us. Let the representative know that you frequent madjacksports and you will recieve extra care. Never buy from the resort, buy direct from an owner with no commissions or appraisals. This name i'm posting under is a substitute for "Gatorbait" as I have forgotton my password :D

Kansas City area for who knows how long....
Secondary Market!!

Secondary Market!!

Gatorbait/timeshare right!

many folks who get timeshares regret it later.

typically on the secondary market they resell for 25 cents on the dollar. Usually less.

Best is to rent a timeshare at resort you like, then ask the folks there how they like it and if any for sale.

many places on 'net listing resales. do a search for it.

Gatorbait/TS email me through my page!

The only problem with resale is it seems to confuse the issue for me ;)

In essence I am looking to pay $xxxx resale or otherwise for the ability to travel hassle free to these resorts, whether I am buying I am buying points or weeks at a resort to trade in makes no difference to me. Again, I am willing to pay more to get the best weeks to avoid silly blackout dates or other hassles. I know a ton of people who love and them, and yeah people who hate them.

However the people I have heard from who dont like them are usually locked into one resort, or have bad weeks, etc.

So Cal
I spent some time in the ealy 80's working with time shares. Funny thing happened - top 2 guys in company ended up in jail. Nevertheless, biggest problem back then was "trading" for high profile properties. For example, people would buy a California mountain area timeshare with the hope of swapping for some time in Hawaii. Seldom happened. I would be very careful to pick a place you are happy with and don't intend to trade for spots throughout the world. Of course, almost 20 years has past and things could be different. California was at one time a big time-share market. Re-sales were more likely give aways to avoid maintenance fees. Don't forget to ask about maintenance fees and find out if the timeshare can be passed on to another in family. Again, my info i dated - could be all wrong.

Ace, it won't let me email you from your page. I definately want to help you. If it's not too much of a hassle, email me at info@vacationregister.com and we can get started finding you the right property at the right price. If you are just looking for a property for the sole purpose of exchanging, I can get you one for the cost of a quick claim deed. Granted these properties are in less than desirable locations and the trading power is low, but it's free!

Jack- I would luv it if you would email me at the email address above with my pw :p

Ace, I own one in Aruba, paid something like 6k 4 years ago, I'll check w/the wife to see if we are going to use next year.

We've used ours to trade toward cruises as well as other resorts.

Yeah their bad investment, but it forces you to take a vaction every year or at least think about taking one.

Ace,
Sorry for the late reply, but worked all week and finally have some time off.

I am almost positive that I can swap resorts for a fee of about 120 dollars within the US and @160 outside the US.

I'm not sure what it wold entail, if it would have to be the same week, etc.

But so far the past 2 years I have owned at Orange Lake in Fla, it has been awesome. It is within minutes to Disney, has a couple sweet championship golf courses, beautiful accomodations, etc...all top notch stuff.

If you have any specific questions feel free to e-mail me, I'll see what I can answer.

My wife and I bought 2 weeks/ yr of time-share at Hanalei Bay Resort on the north end of Kauai, Hawaii, near Princeville (an absolute paradise) about 10 yrs ago through Interval International. Paid it off in 5 yrs (~200/month) and now can exchange it to anywhere/any time we want, since it is Peak Time all 52 weeks of the year. Never had any problems with Interval International, and did an exchange over the internet from their website. Take a look, you might be interested in their service.

Ace, My wife is a Manager of a sales force at a resort in Orlando. If you need any help with information I would be able to get answers to your specific questions. She or I would not benefit directly from this, she would have one of her reps handle it. Let me know if you need some help
