Not exactly twice as big, but rather an additional 800-900 square feet. And as you might imagine, it was ME who ate the additional cost. My contractor had nothing to do with the original drawings as it was me who submitted them to a local building supply company. It was the supply company who was responsible for the screw up, and of course they pawned it off on one of their screwed up planners, who subsequently was fired about 2 weeks after my incident. I actually didn't press the issue with them b/c I knew it wouldn't get anywhere. The extra storage space upstairs is nice, but I still would rather have had the original roof on the house.
The BIGGEST lesson I learned from the whole 13 month experience was THIS: NEVER and I mean NEVER pay ANY subcontractor their full amount of monies owed, till they COMPLETELY finish what they quoted you for!!! I made the mistake of paying some of my subs 1/2 up front, and then the other 1/2 when they were almost through with their particular job. Needless to say, I had one HELL of a time getting them back to finish up what they had started. I actually had a couple of painters that NEVER showed back up, and I had to finally take them to court
