Firstly in Aussie rules home team is mentioned first.
some melbourne based teams play their home games at the same ground.
Some teams split their home games between different grounds.Reasons for this are varied.
when Carlton plays Essendon game will be played at the m.c.g due to both teams having large supporter bases and being classed as traditional rivals (example yankees and boston).crowd is usually in excess of 90 thousand so to keep supporters happy and the revenue rolling in these games the last few years are always at the m.c.g
Same rule applies when collingwood plays either carlton or Essendon.
Some teams play home games at different ground for financial reasons, broaden supporter base and t.v rights.A good example of this is the kangaroos who are struggling financially, until recently played a handful of home games at the s.c.g.And are playing home games at Manuka oval against interstate teams that usually draw small crowds.
As their is 10 melbourne based teams in the afl out of 16 teams some clubs are struggling financially and will basically forfiet a strong home ground advantage if they feel financially it would be better of for the club.
any way here is a break down of melbourne based sides and were they play their home games

My main reason for writing this article is if a team has a home game it does not automatically mean they have a strong advantage, because the ground could also be someone elses home ground meaning the only advantage here is that the hometeams members get allocated more tickets.Or the game is being played interstate in a state that does not have an AFL side or in the case of the S.C.G or GABBA the so called hometeam could be playing against this grounds tradional home team
I hope this is of some use to our friends who have just started playing wagers on the A.F.L
