If there ever is a LOCK!

If there ever is a LOCK!

When is the last time, the New England Patriots were a home DOG? Simply put, the Patriots are well equipped to engage and win a Defensive battle with the Texans if the Pats O struggles. However, more importantly, the Patriots have really lost ONLY one meaningful regular season game at Home in over 3 years, which was to the Eagles in December 2015. I am not counting the home loss to the Bills in December 2014, because obviously Belichick gave that one away.

Now, since Bill O'Brien became the Head Coach of the Houston Texans effective for the 2014 NFL Season, he did turn the Texans around from a W2-L14 record in 2013 to two consecutive winning seasons at W9-L7. However, the Pats and Texans have met only once in Houston since O'Brien became the Head Coach of the Texans. That meeting was on December 13, 2015, when the Pats blew out the Texans in Houston by a score of 27-6*. Before O'Brien arrived, the Texans were easy pickings for the Pats no matter where they played ...
- December 10, 2012 - Texans 14 v. Patriots 42 @ New England;
- January 13, 2013 (Playoff) - Texans 28 v. Patriots 41 @ New England;
- December 1, 2013 - Patriots 34 v. Texans 31 @ Houston;

In 2016, the Texans are W2-L0, and did not allow a TD in Game #2 to the KC Chiefs or a TD in the 2nd Half of Game #1 to the Chicago Bears. However, the Texans mediocre Offense relies more on their Running attack that has averaged 114 yards per game behind RB Lamar Miller who ran for 106 and 83 yards respectively in the first two games. Meanwhile QB Brock Osweiler, has managed an average of 234 yards per game (23rd ranked passing Offense in the NFL), while at the same time throwing 3 picks.

The Texans will be running at the 8th best Run D (Pats), and I expect that Coach Belichick will force QB Osweiler to throw in order to generate Offense. Obviously it is better for the Pats for QB Garappolo to start, but I expect that Brissett can also win this game, especially if both Tight Ends Martellius Bennett and GRONK are on the field. Obviously Texans DT JJ Watt will require special attention on the Right side. But the Texans will have to prepare their D for both Jimmy G and Brisette as Belichick will never reveal the starter until the last possible moment. Although it may be a close game, simply stated the Pats will come out on top at home as they always do in the Coach Belichick era.

* Patriots sacked Texans QB Hoyer 5x; led total yards 313 to 189; first downs 18 to 7; Time of Possession 35 min. to 24 min..
