North Texas is going to the New Orleans Bowl on Dec 16th...my buddies up in Dallas and Denton have a ticket for me...but they are driving and staying in Baton Rouge at someones in laws house...so last night my wife looked up flights from Austin- New Orleans....she found round trip tickets on Frontier Airlines for $77 ...now 2 weeks ago we went to Orlando on Frontier..1 stop New Orleans..it was 55 minutes from Austin...told my wife we need to do this sometime...Frontier is a no frills airline..seats don't go back, carry on cost money but as long as you can put something under your seat its ok...now I have to leave Thursday night after 9.30 and come back early Sunday for the price...and I can do that..visit the WW 2 museum,Bourbon street,etc...the game is on Sat morning at noon...
Help I need..where do I stay....looked at hotels in french quarter area...around $400-600....airport area is around $50-80....but really don't want to rent a car since NO has all the trolleys,etc....
if I stay outside of NO by the airport then would have to rent a car I think...looking for suggestions... any ideas...my buddies would pick me up for the game...thank's guys...a free ticket to the game and maybe we'll pick you up..
What would I like is get some downtown hotel for maybe around $100 a night and walk to French qrt,Canal street..take the trolly around...they are playing at super dome...
any suggestions would be greatly appreciated it.. I need to buy my airplane ticket by tonight...

Try Hilton Riverside. I think I paid around $100 a night there plus they have one of the best restaurants. Dragos.

If you have time, take a tour of New Orleans. They have a bunch of different tours, including a Katrina tour, showing some of the effects of the storm on the city. Definitely worth it.

Thank you guys..

MJ..looked up the Hotel...called their reservations...its $175 plus tax...went to all the sites priceline, cheap hotel,travelocity...what they advertise and say are 2 different things...will continue to search...maybe just stay outside on New Orleans and rent a car...will look up rentals...will play with a few things..still any suggestions is appreciated..
I have Tropicana comps in NJ not Harrah's..damn.. my best friend has big time comps in Harrah's in NJ..big time poker player..
Heleanth....Want to see WW2 museum.. but will go to Katrina tour..wow..didn't know they had a tour of that..

I love this.. a free North Texas ticket to the game that probably cost $35...but find your own way and stay...if I didn't get the airline tickets for the price I got I wouldn't go...not trying to be cheap..but I lost the Stanford game last night and if I won it would of payed for 2 nights in downtown New Orleans...damn...but everything is relative...need a psychologist but the good news is..most of us here do too....or as I always say.." if we knew what we were doing betting we would be on the caymans on the beach.. My guy that handles all my 401's retirement money is 75...why is he still working...
any more suggestions thank you...my son just texted me NY Giants fired coach and GM...about time

Really was in awe of the WWII museum when I visited it on my last visit to New Orleans. Across the street there is a smaller civil war museum which is worth a visit, too.
Have you checked Airbnb for places?
On one trip my wife and I stayed just off bourbon street in an old apartment building.
This was a few years ago? maybe 6 or 7? But it was very reasonable compared to hotel room prices.
Enjoy New Orleans. A unique American city for sure.

look at Hotwire.com and airbnb.com

I can hook you up with Uber n Lyft codes if you never used those services for rides

I?m in New Orleans now and come over 7-10 times a year. 3.5/4.0 star hotels on Hotwire in the warehouse district will get you the Embassy Suites, Marriott, Hilton Garden Inn, etc. They are showing for $100-125 a night now, add about 25% to that for fees/taxes. You can walk to the museum and great restaurants from here and get to the game and as far as Frenchman St for $10 or less on lyft/Uber. Probably cost up to $30 each way from airport, and unless you?re going outside the city lyft/Uber will be cheaper option than rental.

Thank you guys...I just made a reservation at the Wyndam Garden at Barrone Plaza..it was $120 a night including tax...asked for any specials..said is there a discount for the New Orleans Bowl between North Texas and Troy...the guy laughed and said " we have discounts for the Sugar Bowl between Alabama and Clemson but they just sold out this morning....I asked "what about the New Orleans Bowl on Dec 16th.".. he put me on hold for a few minutes...came back and said this Hilton is sold out but I can get you the Wyndam Garden 2 blocks away...for $120 a night... kidding around he said " that is a North Texas discount"...He is a LSU graduate and happy he is playing Notre Dame on New Years...nice to get someone who knows sports and works as a reservation person.

My daughter does Uber so she will help me get app..if not will ask for help here

Box, I?m not sure if they still have the Katrina tour or not. It was a few years ago. Even if they don?t, take another tour. All are very interesting and informative. I?ve gone on one every time I?ve gone there and always thought it was worth every penny. Good luck! Have fun!!
