Saints +4 (1 unit)

Jumped on this a few days ago as I felt sure that the line would go down to 3.5 or even 3. Guess I should have waited since it's up to 4.5 now at most places. Don't think I'll need the extra half point though.

Actually, I am tempted to go with the Saints on the ML here. I don't have the numbers in front of me but it has been my recollection from the past couple years that the Super Bowl winner seems to come out flat in the season opener. I think there is a psychological factor at play here - the team gets introduced and honored as the defending Super Bowl champions and that just puts the focus a little too much on what happened last year instead of this year. The Saints, on the other hand, remember their last game all too well too, but not in a good way. Drew Brees was one of the first to organize "unofficial" practices during the lockout and it just seems like they should be more than ready to play.

Bottom line is that this should be a great football game and I'm thinking it comes down to a field goal.

GLTA this season!
