Am in the preliminary stages of planning a trip to the big easy in August. Anybody have anything nice to say about Harrahs? I'm told there is a Hilton that's close, or across the street.

My wife wants to go antiqueing in the French Quarter. Is it a long walk from the Hilton to the quarter?

It's been twenty years since we've been there. I'm told so much has changed. Hate to go in August but Southwest has some great fares this time of year.

Thanks in advance for any help/advice you can give.

There is a hilton and a doubletree, book thru harrah's site it seems to be cheaper The quarter is within walking distance. In regards to Harrah's it can get pretty crowded on the weekend and typically $10 min blackjack tables not to bad during the week. Harrahs is close to the river and there is big mall right there, so that will make mama happy too, will be there in Sept. for the Niners vs. Saints.

I like the Harrahs there, by far the Best of the Three Harrahs I've been too. Tunica and Metropolis being the others. Cant remember off the top of my head if the Hilton is close but there are several Hotels right there next to the casino and the casino is centrally located so its hard to be to far away.

From the Casino I dont think the French Quarter is too bad of walk. I didnt mind the walk and I had just had neck surgery a couple of weeks before the first time.

Been twice in the last eight months I love it down there. Hope you have a good time.

Hilton is across the street from Harrah's on the RiverWalk. Great view of Ole Man River.

The French Quarter is 4 blocks from the HIlton. Hilton is also across the street from the Aquarium of the Americas, a truly amazing place to see.
IMAX theatre is also in A of A.

Bring comfortable shoes, since parking is almost impossible, since alot of construction going on this summer.

I was there in May and had a good time. THe Harrah's was actually pretty good for gambling, during the days there were plenty of tables open, and even on the weekends/nights I could always find a table of BJ (mins were 15 at night when crowded).

I actually had a very bizarre gambling occurrance at that Harrahs. I was playing BJ at the same table for probably a 4-5 our stint. Anyways, one of the dealers had worked the table about 3.5 of the 5 hours I was there. We basically shot the shit for a while and had some good laughs since I was there so long and was tipping pretty well. To make a long story short, one time she payed me 1 chip too many, and i took it off the table before she noticed, at least so I thought. Anyways, another time I had a pretty big bet on the board and hit BJ so she had to pay me some singles. Again, she payed me one too extra, and it was hidden under the white 1s that were placed on tip. When I thought about it, that is what happened the time before, it was under one dollar chips when i got a bj. I thought that there was no way she could be slipping me more chips, but finally it happened a 3rd time, and when i realized i looked up and we met eyes for a second as if she were waiting for me to notice. After that im sure of it. I was quite surprised that a dealer would take that risk but i guess since i was giving it right back in tips she was taking for herself.
