Dawgball, I heard on the radio this morning
that the virus contains the words "Home Page"
in the Subject line of the email... so if you get an email that has "Home Page" in it just delete it...

Thanks Korn. I didn't want my employees to crash my network.

On the course!
Actually, there was a "harmless" one that I got yesterday:

It said, "You gotta check out this site!"

and it had a cute smilie face.

I received it from a friend who I know would never use those fking smilies, so I called him and he said it was a virus he had just opened.

It resends the message to everyone on your list.

The "site" is a porn place.

Got a question that may sound really stupid but consider the source

When my email messages come up I do not know how to delete them without 1st clicking on them. Now as for attachments I do delete those without opening but can't figure out how to delete regular messages without clicking on them 1st.

DTB-- you can't but the important thing is to NOT open the file/attachment.

What program are you using for your email messages. Outlook? Outlook Express? Hotmail?

You definitely should be able to delete a message without opening it. Let me know.

You should have a black "X" at the top of the screen in Outlook Express. If you highlight the email and click on the "X", it should delete the message. To permanently delete it, you will need to go into your Deleted Items box and delete it again.

You can also right-click on the message and delete should be one of the options.

Let me know if this does the trick.

Thank ya Bro Dawg Was aware of that but once I highlight it the message is there before I can delete it. Ya follow my drift.
I was thinking that once you highlight it to delete it the damage would be already done?

A virus can only spread if you open an active attachment. The view screen at the bottom of the page is not actually opening the message. The attachments that you have to watch out for is .exe and .vbs. Keep your eye out for those even if they are from someone you trust.

my cardinal rule:

if i don't know the sender, it is deleted. even if i know the sender, when i see a forwarded attachment, i won't open it, even if it has to do with mother teresa's lifetime accomplishments. sorry, pals.

also, there is another virus trick i have seen:

you get a normal business letter with an attachment, and then a second letter with a like subject, also with an attachment, but with the virus.

example:

last month's report pepin46
other late info (virus) pepin46

so basically, the sender is duplicated for the explicit purpose of attaching the virus, and with a very legit sounding subject. weird? it has happened. i noticed because an email address i barely use, where i received copies of everything, kept getting all the legit messages and always the second (virus) message right after. this originated in one place of business only(sender), not on all messages i received.

eudora 5 (free) is pretty good with it, as it will show you "hot peppers" if it thinks it may be a virus, before you open it.

also, another thing we have learned is to use only one computer, not in a network, to open up email, this way we won't allow it to spread. but i think the coolest of all is to use windows 3.1 (16 bit)to received and open email, as all viruses are designed for 32 bit systems. of course, you may need to dig up some old aol, email software, etc., but it may very well be worth it.
