In 1920, the first attempt was made to stabilize the situation. Representatives from twelve Midwestern cities met at the Hupmobile Motor Show in Canton. Some sat on chairs, and the rest on the steps, which were then a mandatory part of the exterior of the cars. The result of their meeting was the creation of the American Professional Football Association. Its goals were to coordinate the schedule of games, introduce a ban on bets for players and control it, and prevent students from playing for professional teams.
