Outright plays (1.5 units):

Nick O'Hern to win 14/1 e.w. @ Stan James, UKBetting and Totalbet
With Michael Campbell recovering from an operation to his legs and unlikely to play had this not been his home Open, O'Hern certainly looks a good prospect to win his first event on this Tour since 1999. He finished the European Tour season in good form with top-20 finishes in seven of his last eight starts and has finished in the top-10 in two of his last three starts in this event. Not too many players in this field can compare with that.

Peter Fowler to win 20/1 e.w. @ Stan James
Fowler has shown similar form in Europe this year and brought to Australia better than O'Hern at the end of last year, finishing 8th and 4th in the Australian PGA Championship and Australian Open respectively. His form in this event has not been very impressive, but this is a weak field and there are few in the class of O'Hern and Fowler.

Wade Ormsby to finish in the top-four 16.5/1 @ Centrebet
Surprisingly large odds from a firm who should know all about Ormsby. He finished 2nd in the European Tour Q-School at the end of last year to secure his Tour Card for this season and finished 7th and 17 in the Australian PGA Championship and Australian Open respectively against very strong fields. He has yet to win in 14 starts on the pro Tours, but stands a much better chance of bettering his 5th place finish of last year than Centrebet give him credit.

Outrights (1 unit e.w.)

L. Imai - 125/1 @ Paddy Power
K. Druce - 150/1 @ Paddy Power
D. Stockton Jr. -100/1 @ Bet Direct

Two outsiders with unusually long prices for their form - these prices are not now available, with Imai now trading at an average of 40/1. Have added Stockton Jr. - loads of potential & it's in the genes.

Good Luck!

Matchup plays (1.5 units unless stated):

Mathew Goggin to beat Steve Collins -118 @ Expekt
Goggin struggled on the PGA Tour last year after retaining his card and it presumably hit his confidence once he returned to the Australian events at the end of last, but there is still a gulf in class between these two players. Collins played in nine Australasian Tour events last year and had a best finish of only 20th.

Wade Ormsby to beat Craig Jones -118 @ Expekt
No problem opposing Jones with an outright selection. Jones had a torrid season last year, missing the cut in 13 of 23 starts and making just one top-10 finish in any event. That might have been the Australian Open, but it was very much the exception and is in stark contrast to Ormsby's form.

Terry Price to beat Dave Stockton, Jr. +100 @ Five Dimes [3 units]
This line just doesn't make sense to me. Price is a seasoned Australasian Tour player, a winner of the New South Wales Open only 14 months ago and tried his luck on the European Tour again last season. His did lose form in the second half of the year, but finished in the top-30 more times than not in the first five months of 2003. Compare that to Stockton, Jr. who played 31 events in 2003 and made only eight cuts and it is clear which player is struggling. Those events may have been on the PGA Tour, but when he did play on the two co-sanctioned Nationwide/Australasian Tour events in 2002, he missed the cut both times.

I have decided to liven this weekend up with a few trebles covering the three major events, all at 0.5 units e.w., all at Bet365 at odds quoted today.

Love/Rose/O'Hern
Campbell/Goosen/Westwood
Hoch/Otto/Ormsby

The last one is a bank breaker.

Good Luck!

Outrights - Final update: 0-3; -4.50 units

O'Hern mc
Fowler 22nd
Ormsby 7th

No return on the stakes, but there were chances. Fowler had been 11th with one round to play, but struggling in the blustery conditions on Sunday, while the best chance lay with Ormsby. He led the event after the first round, fell out of contention on day two and then got back to 7th place after the 3rd round. Having started his final round with two birdies, he finally got back into the top-four only to struggle on the back nine and finish two shots out of a very profitable 4th place.

Matchups - Final update: 2-1; +2.73 units

Goggin/Collins LOST by 3
Ormsby/Jones WON by 9
Price/Stockton WON by 13

Not enough profit to cancel the blank on the outright, but two very decisive wins anyway. Never though that Price would win the event, but still a valuable three points won on the veteran.
