Texas TE to miss 2002 season
Bo Sciafe will undergo knee surgery to strengthen it causing him to the entire season.
"It's extremely disappointing for me that I won't be able to be on the field helping the
guys make a run at the Big 12 and National Championships," Scaife said.

..Here is what collegefootballnews had about him in their season preview:

Bo Scaife is known for his pass catching ability with 30 grabs last year for 396 yards,
but he's just as good a blocker.

TCU Starting Linebacker Lost for Season

Josh Goolsby tore a pectoral muscle during a weightlifting session.

Aug 6, 2002

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) - Texas Christian linebacker Josh Goolsby, a projected starter, won't play this season after tearing a pectoral muscle during a weightlifting session.

The injury will require surgery, the school said Tuesday, the day before newcomers report to the team.

Goolsby, a 6-foot-2, 234-pound junior, was the starter for the Horned Frogs at the beginning of last season. But he tore ligaments in his right knee in the second game and was lost for the season.

Returning players have to be back on campus Saturday. The Frogs' opener is Sept. 2 at Cincinnati.

cfbnews:

He's coming back from a torn ACL to start in the middle. He missed spring ball recovering, but he's scheduled to start at
the beginning of the year. If Goolsby is 100%, the linebacking corps could be great.

New Mexico C Rashad McClure has quit the team to concentrate on his studies.

Iowa DB Benny Sapp was suspended indefinitely after being arrest on disorderly conduct charges.

Georgia OT George Foster will miss 8 games after breaking his wrist.

According to cfbnews they say his loss will really hurt the OL. But I was unable to find any specific info on him. Phil Steele's preview mag did not have much on him either. Obviously if he has started that many games his loss should have quite an impact, thanks for the tidbit. Also if I find any other injury news today I will post it here.

..I was going to add a new thread but don't want to clutter up the board. From collegefootballnews' 5 thoughts department:

5. Who will be this year's Maryland?
Two years ago Northwestern came out of nowhere and shocked the college football world. Last year at this time if anyone told you that Maryland would win the ACC you would've laughed your tail off. You know that some unsung team is going to surprise, but who will it be? Here are four possibilities for the out-of-the-blue team of 2002 season and why...
1) South Carolina - Yes, the Gamecocks lose several starters, but this is as fast a team as Lou Holtz has ever coached and QB Corey Jenkins is the perfect player to run the Skip Holtz offense. Georgia, Tennessee and Arkansas have to come to Columbia. The Gamecocks are a sandwich game for LSU between Florida and Auburn and Tennessee between Alabama and Miami. In a long season, it'll be hard for these top teams to stay focused and South Carolina could pull off the upsets.
2) West Virginia - If QB Rasheed Marshall has the Rich Rodriguez offense down, the Mountaineers could be a very dangerous Big East player. Miami comes to Morgantown following the Florida State game while Syracuse and Boston College also have to play on the Mountaineers on the road. RB Avon Cobourne could become the nation's best back while eight returning starters on defense should improve the already great pass D.
3) California - WHAT?! In the loaded Pac 10 the Bears might look like the league's worst team, but we're looking for the deepest sleepers here. 16 starters return and QB Kyle Boller might finally have the coach to showcase his talents in Jeff Tedford. While it's too much to ask of this team to be Oregon right away, it's on the right track with several coaches with a background in the Duck program. If you want a possible first year big-time turnaround program, this might be it.
4) Missouri - Gary Pinkel is one of America's best unknown coaches and Missouri still might be a year or two away from being any sort of threat for the title in the amazingly hard Big XII, but this will be a team that'll scare the heck out of everyone. WR Justin Gage would be the best in the Big XII if Roy Williams and Rashaun Woods weren't taking the spotlight away. RB Zack Abron and LB Sean Doyle are studs to build around this year. The D line should be outstanding. Oklahoma, Colorado and Kansas State all come to Columbia and the Tigers will upset one of those teams.

..pretty bold statement about Misery upsetting one of those 3 teams. I also believe it was fletcher who said watch out for WVA this year (apologies if it was not). Just some food 4 thought b4 the year begins.
