NFL Betting ? Week 1

The curtain rises on the 2009 NFL season tonight in Pittsburgh, with the Steelers currently sitting as a 6-point favorite over the visiting Tennessee Titans.

Sports bettors have been loading up on this game, with very heavy volume recorded at many online sportsbooks. SPORTSBETTING.com is seeing a definite betting trend toward the defending Super Bowl champs, with Pittsburgh receiving close to 70% of all the wagering volume so far.

This game is only the apppetizer to a full weekend of NFL betting action.

There will be games on Sunday of course, as well as a double-header to close Week 1 off on Monday night.

If you want to know which team drew the most attention during training camp and the preseason, you needn?t look any further than the Philadelphia Eagles.

By signing Michael Vick, the eyes of both the sports and mainstream media turned towards the City of Brotherly Love.

While Vick took part in exhibition play, he won?t be in the Eagles? lineup until the third week of the regular season.

Philly opens on the road against the Carolina Panthers and the line is tight with the Eagles listed as favorites of a single point and the Total set at 43.5.

In the Eagles? last 10 road games in September, they?ve posted 3 Over and 7 Unders. The Panthers have also been a reliable ?Under? bet in September but at home. In Carolina?s last 16 home games in the first month of the season, they have recorded 4 Overs and 12 Unders.

Philly has thrived both straight up and against the spread in its last 12 games when favored by 2-points or less, going 10-2 SU and 9-2-1 ATS.

Carolina hasn?t been shabby either when dogged by 2-points or less, going 7-3 SU and 8-2 ATS.

The early betting action has favored the Eagles (65%) and there has been ?Under? money coming in (68% to the Under)

- Chad Ochocinco, the artist formerly known as Chad Johnson, is ready to strike in Week 1 and to be honest we can?t wait to see what he does.

The NFL has a ?no twittering during game time? policy and it is in effect from 90 minutes before kickoff until after the postgame press conferences are done but Ochocinco has apparently found a way to do it within the rules, a ?loophole? as some media outlets are calling it.

Whatever he has planned, Ochocinco?s Cincinnati Bengals go into their 2009 home opener against the Denver Broncos listed as 4.5-point faves.

After missing Cincy?s final preseason game with an ankle injury, the man who will be tossing TD passes to Ochocinco, QB Carson Palmer, will see action against the Broncos.

In the Bengals? last 11 games against Denver?s ilk, that would be teams from the AFC West, they have gone 8-3 ATS.

Week 1 of the 2009 sked will come to a conclusion when the San Diego Chargers play the Raiders in Oakland?the Chargers are big 9-point road favorites and the Total is set at 43.

Ever since the Raiders moved back to Oakland, for the second time, the Chargers have beaten up on them regularly, going 11-3 ATS and are currently on a 7-0 ATS road run against the Raiders.

When listed as favorites of more than 8-points, San Diego has been equally potent, going 8-2 ATS in its last 10 games in that situation.
