NFL, MLB and PGA Golf add up to busy weekend

Finally, after the sports-betting drought that comes each year with the dog days of summer, we have a full weekend of action and wagering options on the gridiron, the diamond and the golf course.

To kick things off, there are a dozen NFL exhibition games on tap this weekend, nicely spread out over Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Tonight?s matchups include the Philadelphia Eagles, who enter an NFL season without quarterback Donovan McNabb for the first time since 1998, opening their preseason slate against the Jacksonville Jaguars at Lincoln Financial Field.

NFL Odds at betED.com have the Eagles as a 3-point, -190 moneyline favorite and the over/under total at 33.5.

Also, McNabb?s new team, the Washington Redskins, are in action as they host the Buffalo Bills, with the Redskins a 4-point, -200 moneyline favorite. The total is 32.5.

Some other matchups this weekend include the Chicago Bears on the West Coast to take on the San Diego Chargers on Saturday (Chargers -3), and the San Francisco 49ers visiting the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday (49ers -3).

On the diamond, there are a number of key MLB matchups this weekend, including the San Diego Padres and the San Francisco Giants battling for first place in the NL West division.

The series opens tonight with the first-place Padres starting lefty Clayton Richard (9-5, 3.83 ERA). The Giants, who trail San Diego by 2.5 games, will go with fellow southpaw Jonathan Sanchez (8-7, 3.55 ERA).

And finally, the last major of the PGA Golf season wraps up this weekend with final round action at the PGA Championship on Sunday at Whistling Straits in Kohler, Wi.
