I always enjoy reading these. For those that never have, here are this weeks.....

1. St. Louis Rams (1): Not only are they now better on offense, but the defense also is much better. The front four is still suspect, but the back seven is much faster than in recent years.

2. Green Bay Packers (6): As long as Brett Favre is still throwing touchdown passes, this team is a threat to win a lot of games. Big test this week in Tampa against the Bucs.

3. Philadelphia Eagles (7): The only loss was in overtime to the Rams. What they did to Dallas on Sunday night was cruel and unusual punishment.

4. Oakland Raiders (10): Got back on track against a bad Seattle team. If not for a late-game collapse against Miami, Raiders would be 3-0.

5. Baltimore Ravens (11): A huge road victory for a team that was staring 1-2 in the face. Maybe the defense can carry this team to another Super Bowl.

6. Denver Broncos (2): The offense was shut down by Baltimore and might be missing Ed McCaffrey more than first thought.

7. New York Giants (12): A quality victory over a good Saints team moves the Giants up. The defense stepped up big against New Orleans, especially defensive end Michael Strahan.

8. Miami Dolphins (3): Poor strategy on the defensive end hurt against the Rams. It will be interesting to see how this team bounces back.

9. Indianapolis Colts (5): If the Colts had to play in Foxboro every week, they'd be at the bottom of this list.

10. New Orleans Saints (4): A slow start killed them against the Giants. The run defense has to be better if this team is a Super Bowl contender.

11. San Diego Chargers (15): The quality of opponent is what has this team's ranking this far down, despite being 3-0.

12. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (9): One day this team's offense will learn how to score touchdowns.

13. Jacksonville Jaguars (8): The Jaguars have to stay healthy to compete, which they weren't able to do against the Browns Sunday.

14. Tennessee Titans (13): The week off was good for this ailing team.

15. Atlanta Falcons (18): Just when it appeared the Falcons were a team ready to take a potential playoff step, the injury to Jamal Anderson hits.

16. San Francisco 49ers (17): If they can continue to run the ball like they did against the Jets Monday, they will be tough to beat.

17. Cleveland Browns (22): A big victory on the road against the Jaguars show this is not a team to take lightly.

18. Minnesota Vikings (21): See what happens when players quit acting like babies?

19. Cincinnati Bengals (16): How does the song go? Back to life, back to reality?

20. Kansas City Chiefs (20): It's amazing what troubles can be cured when playing the Redskins.

21. Pittsburgh Steelers (23): Still not a lot of offense, but at least the defense showed up against the Bills.

22. New York Jets (14): The inability to stop the run is killing this team. The loss of Jason Ferguson for the year has been crippling.

23. Chicago Bears (19): Coming off the bye week, they get a tough test at Atlanta this Sunday.

24. New England Patriots (27): A great defensive plan in the upset of the Colts.

25. Carolina Panthers (25): At least they weren't as bad as the grass at their stadium Sunday.

26. Seattle Seahawks (24): Only the fact that there are so many bad teams in this league keeps Seattle from falling more.

27. Detroit Lions (30): They moved up without playing. Says something about what happened to some other teams Sunday.

28. Buffalo Bills (26): Where have you gone, Doug Flutie?

29. Arizona Cardinals (29): This is one lucky team: They're in the same division with the Cowboys and Redskins

30. Dallas Cowboys (28): Sum it all up with one word: Embarrassment.

31. Washington Redskins (31): It's tough to play games with players who have quit on the coach.

I make my own Power Ratings, which are supposed to assign numeric values to each team. I believe the public tends to overreact to the teams most recent game:

1. St. Louis 100
2. Oakland 98
3. Baltimore 96
4. Green Bay 95.5
Denver 95.5
6. Indianapolis 95
Miami 95
Philadelphia 95
9. Tennessee 94.5
10. Tampa Bay 93.5
11. New Orleans 93
NY Giants 93
13. San Diego 91
Jacksonville 91
15. Minnesota 90
San Francisco 90
Kansas City 90
18. New York Jets 89
19. Pittsburgh 88
20. Atlanta 86
New England 86
22. Carolina 85
Chicago 85
Cincinnati 85
25. Cleveland 84.5
26. Detroit 84
Buffalo 84
Seattle 84
29. Arizona 81.5
30. Dallas 80
Washington 80

To start the season, it is subjective. I still had my Power Ratings from last year. Ultimately, they are determined by point differentials and strength of schedule. I make the adjustments weekly and assign each team a "game power rating". This is done by taking an opponents power rating and adding or subtracting the point differential from the final score. Then we add 1.5 (or 2 in college) or subtract 1.5 to adjust for home field advantage. Here's an example:

New Orleans is a 93 and Minnesota a 90. The game is in NO. Let's say the Saints win 27-17. The Saints game power rating would be 90 plus the 10 pt differential MINUS 1.5 because they were home. Their GPR would be a 98.5. Minnesota would be 93 minus 10 plus 1.5, giving them an 84.5. As the season goes on, you can average the game PRs and toss out the best and worst. But much of the PR at this point is still based on the pre-season predictions, with some adjustments made. Using strictly game power rating after only 3 games still leaves lots of room for error. After about 7-8 weeks is when they really get accurate.

These are from ESPN.com

1. St. Louis Rams (3-0) 4
Believe it or not, Monday night's game at Detroit will say plenty about the Rams. We'll find out where their heads are at -- whether they're focused enough to avoid a letdown and make another title run. If it's a blowout, beware of St. Louis' spirit.

2. Ravens (2-1) 12 Regained respect with statement-making win in Denver.

3. Dolphins (2-1) 2 Truck that hit them had Missouri license plates.

4t. Broncos (2-1) 1 Would McCaffrey have made a difference? Probably.

4t. Raiders (2-1) 5 More homecooking with another cupcake in Cowboys.

6. Packers (3-0) 7 We'll see just how far back the Pack is against Bucs.

7. Eagles (2-1) 8 Forty points in the rain? On the Vet turf? Impressive.

8. Giants (2-1) 11 Admit it America, this team is pretty darn good.

9. Colts (2-1) 3 Manning got to experience "fall" in New England again.

10t. Saints (1-1) 6 Looking to avenge last season's playoff loss to Vikings.

10t. Chargers (3-0) 13 Face another AFC Central surprise in Cleveland.

12. Buccaneers (1-1) 9 Turns out, biggest loss from Sunday was Dunn injury.

13. Titans (0-2) 14 Return from bye with road game at Baltimore ... ouch.

14. 49ers (2-1) 15 New gold rush in S.F. with Barlow and Hearst.

15. Jaguars (2-1) 10 Suddenly, star players are getting hurt again.

16. Falcons (2-1) 18 Early optimism hurt by Jamal's season-ending injury.

17. Vikings (1-2) 19 Just when you're about to count them out ...

18. Bengals (2-1) 16 Euphoria from beating Ravens slowly fading away.

19. Browns (2-1) 25 Butch Davis' confidence has been contagious.

20t. Chiefs (1-2) 21 Much-hyped offense finally broke out with big game.

20t. Jets (1-2) 17 MNF tape can be sold as "How not to tackle" video.

22. Bears (1-1) 22 Bye week victory: Soldier Field's name will be kept.

23. Steelers (1-1) 24 Heinz Field opening vs. Cincy not a gimme anymore.

24. Panthers (1-2) 20 So that's the root of the problem: Terrible Ericsson turf.

25. Patriots (1-2) 29 Complete thrashing of Colts came out of nowhere.

26. Seahawks (1-2) 23 How did this team beat the Browns in Week 1?

27. Cardinals (0-2) 26 Already a long season for fans in Valley of the Sun.

28. Lions (0-2) 30 Bright side for Ty: Six INTs would be an improvement.

29. Bills (0-3) 27 We wouldn't have let Donahoe go if they were this bad.

30. Cowboys (0-3) 28 How can you not feel bad for Emmitt Smith?

31. Redskins (0-3) 31 Isn't it ironic: Snyder not being able to work with Marty.
