Well, thought I might try and start up an interesting thread topic here since I am bored at the job.

Jagr.
Apparently playing for imaginary penguin dollars does not pay the bills anymore.

Who's gonna get him? and why?
My thoughts...
It will have to be a very openly offensive team. And a team with a very high payroll. A friend thought it might be Dallas. Although I feel the Dallas Stars have enuff of a payroll and would like to see him join up I dont think Jagr would fit in down there. He is too offensively minded. Yes his defensive game is coming about and we saw it during the playoffs, but his scoring also decreased considerably while he focused on defense. He just doesn't seem to be the type of player that can go HARD both ways. I feel its one or the other for him going all out and then kinda half effort on the other end of the ice. The Stars have always been the tough checking, forechecking defensive minded team waiting for mistakes to capitalize on rather than making something happen from scratch like Jagr can do.
Rule out Colorado. Enuff talent there already.
The Devils? quite possibly. They have a bruising defense, and a potent offense. By that I mean, their defense of the other 4 players could make up for the minimal effort on the D side Jagr might create.
Canadien teams? I dont think they have the payroll for him.
St Louis? possibly so with their two monster Dfensemen in Pronger and Mcginnis. Not sure about the payroll tho.
SJ Sharks. I could see this team pursuing him. They are an offensive minded team that moves the puck and to put him in there with Owen Nolan would be ideal for them.
Rangers? sure... spend some more money on players this off season... see if you cant break 100 million this summer instead of that paltry 60 million last time around.
And I cant really see him going to some of the lower tiered teams in the league either. Jagr wants another Cup and i think he would hold out to go with a proven winner vice a darkhorse.
Philly? Dunno about this one. They could sure use him with all their injury prone players. But will the bad blood of recent years prevent him from going there?

I think that the team that could best use and afford Jagr would be the Redwings. They have the $$$$$$$$ and are a very offense first type team. Plenty of players to make the puck move to the back of the net and adding Jagr to the lineup would create some added depth on their scoring lines and pretty much put their opponents into a constant defensive position. Detroit is searching for that missing link to get back to the Finals and emerge on top once again and I would bet they look for it in Jagr.

My top 3 predictions:
1. Detroit
2. SJ Sharks
3. NY rangers - spend spend spend!

i havent seen sportscenter or read about the jagr dealings in over a week, so i aint up to all the rumor mill stuff yet, so this is just a off the top of my head prediction here. If there was any announcements yet I dunno bout it and will probably look like a monkey typing all this stuff up.

would love to hear what some of the other hockey nuts think about this.

Marine--
Topic up here around Buffalo is all about Hasek and Peca.
Rumors had Hasek going as early as tomorrow to St Louis and Peca to Florida.
Hasek has been the lifeblood of my hockeyteam for as long as I can remember. I know the time is coming-with Biron and Mica ready to step in-but it is going to be a HARD day when it happens. The Sabres just can't put up the $$$ to compete. Having the #1 goalie in the world is the best we will have. All these trades better involve a SCORER and not a defenseman.
Jagr to Detroit sounds logical.

Its a shame because some players should play with the same teams their entire career. I'd be devistated if the Devils decided to move Scott Stevens or Brodeur even if they got good value for them. The constant player movement is what is wrong with sports today. No loyalty on both the players and owners sides.
As far a hockey trading I've heard the the rangers will go after anybody with a pulse. The Islanders are supposed to make a serious bid for jagr and with the 2nd pick in the draft they should be able to make a sweet offer. The rangers will end up with either jagr or yashin.
I hope the Devils go after a scoring defensman like Rob Blake but they probably will stand pat.
