Eric, I have to admit you were right so far. Soriano has been the MVP so far and the Yanks have been much better than I expected. The postseason is still not a lock with Boston, Anaheim, Oakland and Seattle all going for just 3 sports, but they do look like the best team in the AL so far.

Still, you have to wonder about that pitching staff. If Weaver is great then they are probably fine but in the past he has sometimes pitched to the level of his support and if he struggles, then the only rock solid guy at this point is the Moose, who had an ERA of about 4.50 last I checked.

The one thing that has been disappointing to me is the White Sox. I never thought that team would struggle so much. I just don't get it. I thought 90 wins was just about a sure thing.

i am also baffled with the wsox i put a stat up the other day and it really has paid off if you think wsox are goingto win play the runline because they are 4-19 in 1 run games.

also pittsburgh is on track to lose the 90 i said, they won't do as good 2nd half as they did in the first.

word is marlins are looking to move floyd and 2 pitchers very soon lets see if it happens.

gaints are looking for a first baseman that can hit and another guy in the of with some pop. should start to see some movement and who wants to win and who will be good to bet against as they sale off their high ticket people and bring up the younger ones.

I think Pittsburgh will be better in the 2nd half. I still think that is a .500 team at least. We'll see if they turn things around.

I like the Tigers as a team to bet in the second half, also the Cubs. Cubs aren't going to dismantle that team and they have some arms. Wouldn't be surprised to see them make a run. Detroit has quietly built a darned impressive young lineup if Pena hits. I like Simon, Magee and Fick especially. When Higginson comes back I think this team will win a good number of games with a few solid young arms like Redman and Bernero.

I would expect the D-backs to fade. They kind of remind me of a team like the Ravens in the NFL. They had their one fluke championship where everything came together and their top guys all played their best ever over a short period of time. For Baltimore it was their defense and for the Dbacks it was Schilling and Johnson. I see them fading out of the playoff picture and the Giants and Expos duelling with possibly the Reds for the wildcard.

And speaking of the NFL I think I am starting to like the Falcons and the Bengals. I really think Ferotte could be the missing piece to a solid team and with such a weak schedule Reeves should have the Falcons in the playoffs.

In Detroit, Higgy and Simon are expected to be traded very soon

Higgy has been very vocal and pissed about the Weaver trade (and i can't blame him)

My Tigers now have 3 first baseman, pena, young and simon. and munson in AAA is on the trading block

I hope Pena and the weaver trade works out because I'm so tired of being a Tiger fan and seeing them suck so bad.

Nick, with all due respect, why do you like Simon and Magee so much? Simon has a .441/.298 Slg/Obp. PATHETIC numbers for a First baseman. Magee, .407/.298 with no speed in center. Fick is the only one close to league average. If Pena and Higginson play very well then this offense MIGHT become average at best. Sorry buddy, they could very well play better in the second half but their offense is no where close to impressive. Someone in their system needs to start teaching PLATE DISCPLINE. Last in the Majors in walks, pretty sad. As for Arizona, pitching wise they need a 3rd guy but I think they will stay around regardless. Offense very solid, everyone gets on base except Wohack. They should trade him to Detroit, would fit in with those losers. Pirates, maybe. If Benson stays healthy that would help. Offense is so-so and doubt it will get any better. As for who I think might improve greatly in the second half, I am not sure. Keep thinking that the Padres can't be that bad and will improve. We shall see...

Fletch,

If you have not heard there is a soon to be pending trade between the Marlins and Expos. Expos would get Burnett (I think) and Cliff Floyd.

What has got into the Expos? They are going down guns a blazin' that is for sure.

GO DODGERS.

The White Sox pretty much killed their season with the Wells/Fogg/Lowe trade and getting a guy in return (Ritchie) who has been absolutely terrible. I don't think anyone thought Ritchie would be this bad, but its a bad clubhouse also. Thomas, Liefer are unhappy and Manuel is on the hotseat (deservedly so). Reinsdorf chose to hire Kenny Williams over Dan Evans. Now Evans is the GM for the first place Dodgers and Williams made the worst trade of the offseason.
