I love Timmy in this game. Should be one of the all time great pitching duel. Lincecum usually does great against staff aces. Plus if we can get to the bullpen that can only help the G-men.

The Journey is the Reward.

"Players nobody wanted. A team nobody could beat. That will be the legacy of the 2010 Giants. And it's all true. But the real story has more layers than that -- and when the story is told years from now, people will still smile.

"I think nobody believed what we can do," said Edgar Renteria, the man whose home run led to the trophy presentation that some people never expected to see. "And that's so amazing. That's so amazing."

At 9:29 p.m. Texas time Monday, all disbelievers were silenced. Giants closer Brian Wilson and his weird beard threw a depraved 90 mph slider past yet another haplessly swinging Texas Ranger. It was the third and final strike to the final batter of the final inning of the first World Series won by the Giants since they moved to San Francisco in 1958.

At the final out, mayhem commenced . . .

After that, the players traipsed into their locker room for the traditional spraying of Champagne (Mumm Napa, if you must know) and tried to explain what had just happened.

Most of their detailed comments went something along these lines: "YEEEEEEEEEEEEEOOOOOOOOOOW! MMMMMMMAAAAA! HOOOOOOOOO!"

Hey, they were entitled. This team, on opening day of the 2010 season, was considered the mildest of long shots to contend for the playoffs. The Giants didn't clinch the division until the last day of the season. And they weren't given much chance to get past Philadelphia and win the World Series.

But here is how the Giants defied the common wisdom: They never got ahead of themselves. They almost never made a mistake. They took the postseason inning by inning, batter by batter, offensively and defensively. And it worked. They won 11 of the 15 postseason games they played.

That's the layer of the story baseball people will most admire, long after the snapshots of the Giants' crazy characters have faded -- although those crazy characters certainly made it the most fun Bay Area sports ride in decades.

"We always felt if we got to the playoffs, we would have a chance to win," said second baseman Freddy Sanchez. "But you know, we weren't sure we were going to get there until that last weekend."

The roster included players who were cut or waived from other teams (Ross and Pat Burrell) and players who were not much coveted by other Major League clubs (Aubrey Huff, Juan Uribe). But the irony of the clinching game was that Lincecum and Renteria were two players that the Giants actually did want, badly."
