Detroit Red Wings star Sergei Fedorov was charged with impaired driving early Sunday in Royal Oak.
Fedorov, 31, of Bloomfield Hills, was driving alone when he swerved his black 2001 BMW around a car stopped at West Fourth and Lafayette, then ran a red light at high speed, police said.
The Wings center registered a blood-alcohol level of .09 percent, Royal Oak police said Monday. A level of .10 or above is considered drunken driving in Michigan.
Police would not say where Fedorov had been drinking or how much he told them he consumed before he spent about two hours in police custody. He was released at 5 a.m. Sunday on the standard bond of $100, which he had in his wallet, said Royal Oak Deputy Chief Richard Adriaens.
The city's police report lists no marital status for Fedorov, who was reported to have wed tennis star Anna Kournikova this summer in Moscow. She is 11 years younger. Kournikova's father vehemently denied the report.
The emergency contact Fedorov gave police at the time of his arrest ``is not a wife,'' Adriaens said.
After practicing Monday morning with the Wings, Fedorov refused comment on the arrest. He must appear in Royal Oak's 44th District Court on or before Oct. 3.
A Red Wing since 1990, Fedorov has a clean driving record, according to a spokeswoman for the Michigan Secretary of State. He has a six-year contract with the hockey team for about $38 million.
