Good column today. I also think you need to have a strategy with your bankroll, but maybe with more modest goals. I hope to increase my roll by about 50% (I have a number in mind) by the end of this *year*. That's sports and poker put together.

In regards to your bankroll doubling strategy --

IF you picked 55% winners at $35 per play and paid the vig, you'd only be up $53 at the end of month 1 (you're looking at 16 winners at about 3 bucks vig per win). You'd be up $109 at the end of month 2. This will basically more than DOUBLE the amount of time it takes to double your bankroll.

In order to double it in 7 months, you would need to pick winners at about a 57.6% clip. That's a little better than 17-13 every month. This doesn't seem hard on the surface, especially if you really concentrate and just look for ONE edge per day, but as you know, that's a pretty high number.

Your totals from last baseball season hit at about 55% (100-82).

I'm not saying you can't do it, nor am I writing this to discourage you from trying. It's a noble aggressive goal, but just hard as hell. Increasing the roll by 50% by the end of the season might be more realistic. I'll follow it with interest though. Good luck.

Thanks for writing the column. I wish some mainstream newspaper will someday have the guts to run something like that (like the Boston Herald runs I.M. Bettor's column during football season) on a daily basis instead of just these blowhards who force 500 words every day.

Thanks for the excellent feedback, Shrimp. Great info.

I intended to do a follow up with the VIG included, but you have now done that for me. So, I'll add your comments to tomorrow's report and reconfigure the expectations.

Much obliged,
