Was Philly -1 and Philly/SD under 44.

Halftime total score: 35
Total points scored second half:3

If Philly can kneel on the ball 4 times, this should be a BY NO MEANS EASY AND MAKE ME SWEAT THE WHOLE AFTERNOON winner.

Projected Final Score:
SD 14
Philly 24

CONGRATS ON THE BIG WINNER NOLAN!

Of course, Philly can't kneel on the ball, and can't get a first down. Now they punt to Flutie... he screwed me in college on a hail mary once... don't let it happen today!

come on guys, nolan has a great reputation and appears to be a stand-up guy, but let's not blow smoke up his ass for one lousy winner. look at the rest of the day and for that matter, the whole season. His plays have torched us all season.

is he an excellent capper? yes, but let's settle down a little.

Easy BBF. Don't have to say a thing Nolan can handle him self. However bank role still hoalding up from last years in put. Don't agree with all Nolans picks. Nolan would have it no other way. Many times you will here Nolan say he likes the tit for tat. And to here our reasons why we like a side. We have other folks here that like the same, tit for tat. We always say you don't have to play anything you read here if you don't want to. So lets not get to chitty.

Handicap your on games, please!

Nolan, defend him til the day I die - enough said? Hope so.

Play all Nolan's games, blindly.....fine, but don't complain.

It's called respect. Do the work, the best way. And yes, I fall into situations where I don't do the work. Won't complain though.

you are right wolf... Nolan has a better mathematical analysis than anyone I have ever seen. I would trust him blindly. The new comers don't have histpry with him.

I was just happy to see him win his best bet, as I usually play his best bets too!

nolan is the man but bigbuckfan has the right(and for that matter the facts to back it up)to speak his mind.i blame myself for following nolan blind but i did it last year and will probably do it next year.
lets not explode on a guy who does a little bitching.all he was saying was that nolan had a awful day and someone starts a thread praising his one winner.
if someone else(spanky, fletch, etc)praised themselves or someelse for one winner, this board would light him up.take it easy

We are all safe in our own little basement.
It is very easy for all of us to hide beyond the anonimity of any fake moniker or name we choose to conjure. We can all therefore be so quick to criticize any opinion not in step with our own; After all, who's really going to know who is who.

I certainly have learned my lesson. Never again will I tread on those few who are defended by the "old guard." I have no problem leaving this sight. It's yours to defend fellows.

Yes, I dared say that Nolan was having a poor year. And Oh my God, I did point our that one winner should not be reason for an a celebration. I also was quick to praise both his abilities and reputation. As I wrote my thoughts, I somewhat knew that Nolan himself might even reply. It turns out he has no need to lower himself. He has plenty of hitmen.

It's been fun. I have long admired this sight. I even jumped on a few months ago and started to post. It appears as though I am not worthy. Goodbye and good luck.

Bigbucksfan,

This is no reason to leave the site. You have to know that if you even mildly criticize Nolan, all the fans will come out of the woodwork to blast you. After all, it's NOLAN that you're talking about.

Take it with a grain of salt, man, and be confident that your first post was right on the money. It was.

It didn't read at all like you had sour grapes, or whatever. You appeared to simply state facts.

Don't let these guys discourage you from participating in a forum in which you admittedly enjoy.

You have to have a thicker skin than that if you even think about whispering anything negative about the chosen one.

If you have facts on your side, the reasonable people will see it your way. Believe that.

When I think of the word "forum," I think of a FREE exchange of ideas. Good, bad, helpful, destructive, whatever. ALL points of view are welcome here, as long as things are factual and serve some purpose.

I certainly have no quibble with criticism. Has it been a disappointing year in the NFL -- hell yes!

The individual who made the post, to me, did not come off as arrogant or overly critical. He was stating fact. While I appreciate those who may have interpreted the remarks as hostile, I thought they were appropriate. After all, how can anyone rejoice with one win, when the other games lost?

I implore the individual to rethink his decision to leave. This forum is about IDEAS -- and so long as we do not misrepresent facts or destroy people, people should be free and feel free to express their opinions.

on more than one ocassion, i have suggested to nolan that he drop the won-loss record.

the reason is very simple:

nolan is a very good sports writer, and has a much better than average understanding of the technical side of the game. why should this person "demean" his worth by allowing others to judge him strictly on his w/l record? this thread illustrates exactly my point. i grant you that it is a situation he himself got into, but i believe he should also learn to get out of.

he should present his "recommendations" based on his analysis of the game. we, as intelligent human beings, are quite capable of agreeing or disagreeing with his conclusion, but the essence of his presentation is valid and a big part of his value to mj and all of us. the conclusion, to bet for, against or skip, is what determines where we stand percentage wise, including himself. if some just want to bet blindly whatever he recommends, then that is also your choice, as no one if forcing you to.

to conclude:

the fellow who started this thread was obviously very happy he nailed nolan's recommendation, and the other fellow expressed something he had inside, except that his choice of words (torched) was not well taken by many who appreciate nolan the 'capper and the man.

obviously nolan was not offended by it, and i too can understand how we sometimes pull the trigger before we think. once you hit that "reply" button, it is gone and done. we have all done or said something silly that we later regret, but what is done is done.

bbf, you don't have to go anywhere. you expressed your strong feelings and so did others. leave it at that.

this is just one of many threads that get a little hot and then forgotten a week later.

Pep, while I agree "in theory" with what you are saying, there is a key point that is missing. I believe you are overestimating the modus operatus of Joe Poster or Joe Lurker. These days, people don't want to read analysis or reasoning behind a selection. They don't give a rat's ass about the process, they want the result...."Just gimme a winner!" And this is truly sad, because you see, this is how we learn. The end result of a given play is much more that just + or - money in one's account IF you choose it to be. For example, if I lose a play, I wanna know WHY I lost it and this is the precise reason why I'm so adament about presenting some sort of rationale when posting picks. It's not so much about backing up a selection BEFOREHAND, it's about the process of arriving at the selection and reflecting on it when the result is in.

Now, as far as the manner in which Nolan presents his selections, first let me state that I have read every word of every report since he came to this site. Do I agree with his betting style? No. Do I agree with jumping back and forth between sides, totals, props, futbol, etc? No. Do I agree with his hypothesis that Teasers have value? No. As a matter of fact, I don't agree with much. But, i DO respect the manner in which he presents it. It is quite obvious that the man is incredibly passionate about what he does. It is also obvious that he has demonstrated lately the willingness to learn and/or grow from his own mistakes. You MUST be able to eat a great big slice of humble pie in this business or you're finished before you started. Now, back to my point. I would be willing to bet that more than 1/2 of the people who play Nolan's picks don't read word #1 of his commentary. This has nothing to do with the author himself, it's the nature of the beast so to speak. In this day and age, people don't want to spend the time, they just look at the bottom where it says "Play New England" and move on. 80% to 90% of the threads in this forum (hell, any forum) are just that: selections standing on their own merit. For these individuals, a win/loss record is the only gauge of measurement, and a very shallow one at that. Show me a guy that's 3-20 but presents some great points, something to debate or criticize, something to LEARN from, and I'll tell you that's more valuable than "Take Cleveland BIG!"

So, by presenting some material to consider AND posting a win/loss record, it satisfies both types of individuals. Those that want to delve a little deeper into what they are actually wagering on (and why) and those who just want you to show them winners. The choice is up to them.

PS. For the record, I don't believe that bigbucksfan's post was out of line in any way, shape, or form. There is nothing in that post that I can find that is arguable.

no argument, except that you don't use the w/l record to make bets, you go to the bottom line and that is it.

i do it sometimes, i will go to sportsnetwork just to see how their projected score agrees or disagrees with me. on some ocassions, like when i need more ammo to make a decision, i will read their portion on the offense/defense or whatever i am interested in. i will go to cbs to see this fellow's trends, just to get an idea what to be on the lookout for.

i do read nolan's selections and reasons most of the time, except he has been coming in late the last few weeks, and by that time i am already comitted.

this brings up another question, which is:

why don't we have access to reply/agree/disagree with nolan? nolan's recommendations should be interactive in my opinion. this is probably something between jack and nolan, and i have no idea how either feels about it, although i think nolan may be receptive.

getting back to the issue: we are getting pretty good exchanges on the match-up forum, with bubba leading, providing stats and throwing in his opinions as well. it is probably the best interactive handicapping tool at mjs, mainly because it is controlled, yet you can come in, make your point and counter-point. a very neat, controlled environment, unlike the pigskin, where a mildly worded thread will get buried in a hurry, regardless of its content.

now, bubba is doing a great job; it was a good idea and he is filling the shoes to perfection. yet, we don't judge bubba on his record, and why should we, or why should we want bubba to post his record? see what i am getting at?

aside from that there have been times when i (and probably others) wanted to challenge one or two of nolan's key plays, but just bringing up his selections and comments, as i have done previously, is not specific enough to get the reader challenged on one or two specific games and get a variety of intelligent responses.

there is a whole set of issue here and i am sure jack, nolan and others involved will come up with a good plan to make mj even better.

cheers,

pep

Since this rediculous thread is still on the front page I'll butt back in. I haven't played much all year do to the fact I work close to 80 hours a week and have a newborn and a 2 year old. Every week I go where I always go on this site for the info I'm looking for. I happened to be playing this last Sunday, teasers if I must, and after reading Nolan's write-up on this game, I played it equal to my highest play of the day hoping that if I lost my top play, I'd hit his. I didn't read any other of his plays or reasonings. Hence, when I posted in this thread, I had no idea of his record for the day and better yet, no idea of his overall record. So ya, when sumone says the chit I see in this thread, I got pissed. So for those who see nothing wrong with the chit posted here.....fuk u. I will still say it was a hell of a play with good foundation. Blowing smoke up sumone's a$$.....fuk u. Knocking a man for his plays........fuk u.
