Wow, we are the Champions....bring on Loy-Chi,Michigan,Nova and Kansas...we could take any of those teams playing today and .....sorry...wait a minute....I need to compose myself...and "get back down to earth"...bring on UTEP,FIU,FAU,Rice,UTSA,UAB,M-Tenn and Louisiana Tech....teams we lost to during the season... and the hell with those pre-season magazines ..Smith and Street predicted NT 12th in Conf USA, with Lindy's,Sporting News,and I say this with a "heavy heart" Blue Ribbon...the bible of college basketball...All predicted North Texas 12th out of 14 teams...I have cancelled my subscriptions to all those magazines except Blue Ribbon...but all you publications missed the boat big time...most of you have Zona playing Mich St today....but I always knew North Texas would rise to the top after finishing off 16-18 and losing in the 1st rd of the Conf tourney...and I knew the CBI was short one team to fill their braket and picked a 16-18 team North Texas because of our "high standards in Academics and team GPA scores"...I wear my Mean Green hat here in Austin proudly among all these ugly burnt orange Longhorn hats...I stop at the mall here and walk into Lids..not a North Texas hat to be seen...but we know that will change....anyway
Over 6,200 fans showed up last night...biggest crowd at NT in 6 years....I know parking was a big problem on campus but for 3 free parking passes that was awesome.... I predicted almost exactly what would happen...go back and read it... I did write IE and Madjack and they showed me a way to edit your past posts so no one could see when I went back after the game and edited it...there is a secret way of doing that but you have to be a member of MJ's for over 10 years before they let you in on that secret...I forgot to go back and edit game one in this series...think I lost the game and the over-under and 1st half...
North Texas won 88-77.. Smart had 25 points and was named MVP... NT had 2 big leads but both times they lost them and at one point with 7 minutes left it was 52-51....USF inside the paint were hurting without their top rebounder...I did not change or edit that from yesterday's post...NT had 3 guys that never started a game score 14,12 and 8 pts ....Grant the coach again made adjustments that were excellent ...NT won its 4th CBI home game by double digits...the newspapers here this morning say " Remarkable run,Decisive,Cinderella,etc...
I say a lot of it was the coach...he did a masterful job with X's and O's... USF plays motion offense and North Texas might have the athletes and speed but hung in...not to many back doors...a lot of breakdowns guarding the 3's but when USF isn't hitting their outside shots that's a lot better then a back door layup.
What a great nite....was getting texts from my buddies throughout the game...my grandson went down just before the opening tip...ESPN cut away from the post game ceremony to show Ok St baseball game...but that was ok...did put a lot more boxes ****'s on this game then what I posted....but " How sweet it is"...
Blue Ribbon grades teams with lettered grades...
Frontcourt,backcourt,depth-bench and Intangibles... North Texas got a C+,C,C- and another C in intangibles ...they probably deserved the C's in the 1st 3 but they missed the boat big time in Intangibles .. I realize the CBI isn't the Big Dance,not even the Junior prom or sophomore hop..but North Texas gets an A+ in Intangibles ...I am going back to that snow cone stand today and telling her that her sister missed a great basketball game in Denton and can you please put a little more " blue coconut " syrup on my snow cone...
