Miami +2 over North Texas ****
Had North Texas -14 over kansas yesterday and lost the cover. Kansas dominated and owned the bds and almost everything I said was right on except with 2.32 in the game ,with the ball Self substituted his starters up 22 points. North Texas is supposed to also sub but they didn't They went on a 14 point run and I Kansas won 71-59. Lost the cover.. Kansas shot almost 50%FG and inside they owned the paint. But no excuses its a non conf game ,pre-season game and the Kansas's need to see all its players. The problem was the North Texas coach. When the opposing team is up by +20 and they sub so do you. with under 3 minutes left in the game. Anyway no excuses I should know that esp in pre-season games.
Miami is coming off a big loss to Dayton but think other then Perry NT doesn't pose as a threat on offense to Canes defense. Nt plays outstanding defense but front court is avg. Bell top rebounder and scorer fouled out yesterday with 12 minutes left in game. Perry was a super juco find for NT and can penetrate and shoot. Canes have quick gds and a much better front line . Think they get back on track with a win Canes also have Wong one of the top gds in the country and Larranaga as a coach.
Need to get some **'s back after yesterdays Kansas game.

Started slowly but Canes played a great second half. No bench scoring.

llowell you kinda don't want a big lead .. keep it close so the last few minuts the game and line are still in question ..yesterday was what other people call a " bad beat" but I should know better, no excuses in pre-season games vs non conference teams coaches want to give their bench players some " light" so with big leads let your bench kids get some playing time . but a rule of thumb among fellow coaches is when the team out ahead by a lot and he subs with a few minutes left then you sub also. I like the North Texas coach a lot and I guess if he loses by 12 or 13 points instead of 22 its a feather in his hat he kept it close.
I remember way back coaching my 1st years team and we were down by 30 and the other coach took all his starters out I actually pressed and got within 10-12 points .. When the game was over the coach who I became good friends with later on in life after the game put his arm around me and said " box, once I took my kids out of the thats the sign I;m putting up my white flag. I understand what you did and really you don't know better now but learn this lesson .. because I could of beat you by 60" wow I learned it and never would do that again" talk about a lesson in life.. he is in the NY hall of fame and won a NIAA national championship with Kentucky Weslayn in the mid 60's We went head to head for the next 25 years He became one of my best friends . I guess coaching on a college level its a little different but if i ever get a chance to talk to Grant M I will mention it to him ..
