UAB -2 over North Texas ***
Tough game for me because I want to be neutral as possible . NT swept the reg season two games but lost in the Conf USA semifinals to UAB. Going over the box scores of the 3 times they played is tough In one game that NT won at UAB Walker dnp. Nt's big man probably won't play tonight and he was an intergrel part of 2 of those games. But NT's back up center Sissoko is playing better then Ousmane the missing player. These two teams landed opposite in the NIT and could only meet in the finals. Perry NT's pt gd was named the Conf USA POY. But Jelly Bean Walker was the pre-season POY. Both are two of the most unheard of pt gds in the country. NT is coming off a nice win over Big 10 Wisconsin .Walker has said he is upset that Perry beat him out.
I think North Texas is the better defensive team but UAB is an experienced team and can hit those off bds . Walker and Perry are even but walker is in a little slump scoring. I think UAB with the Brewer brothers and Buffin inside has seen the NT pressure and made a few adjustments. But Nt's has done the same. Comparing their games vs other teams in conf is hard. I have Plus 's and positives every where. Maybe the one that stands out is what these guys did vs FAU who is in the final 4, UAB did beat FAU once 86-77 and North Texas did lose both times to them 66-62 and 50-46. Bur NT defense held FAU's offense which avgs almost 80 pts a game to 62 and 50 points
Like Kennedy the coach said yesterday " we both know each other and both know what were going to do". Perry has 83 points in the NIT's where Jelly Bean Walker is 18-62 in 3 games. But he still avgs 22 pts a game. I think everyone knows Grant the North Texas coach is going to Texas Tech after the game win or lose. Is that a factor tonight. Who knows I hate going against my Mean Green but think Perry and Walker are two of the best pt gds in the country and missing Ousmane hasn't hurt them but can his replacement continue to excel as he has.
I will think Jelly Bean Walker is playing with a chip on his shoulder like he has publicly said, and the Blazers edge out my Mean Green by a few points. Played a teaser so I can still cheer for NT but its hard trying to be objective in your team . There are 6 teams left playing and 3 of those are Conf USA teams I love FAU and have them in the finals and will hedge the play but they have to get by San D St 1st.
UAB wins this low scoring game by 2 -4 pts Jelly Bean Walker who will be hounded by Huntsberry all game gets a chance to outplay Perry . And can North Texas knowing there coach is leaving play without that distraction in the back of there heads. Its funny the two best players tonight in the gym are under 5'9 UAB's coach was at Miss for years. Looking for a great game and watching Perry and Walker will be awesome.
Still on cloud 9 and regardless of the outcome tonight might be a little poorer but down deep happy for my school
good luck everybody thank you all for the nice comments Go mean Green oops go UAB

I have always enjoyed your thoughts and write ups of games, I really like the way you start from styles, matchups, ways, courage etc, I know you used to be a coach but once a coach always a coach, Soo

My question is, based on the matchup what are you thinking? Because you have been writing for a long time and you ate just wanting NT to win and maybe believe the other team guard yo have revenge but you do not know and you have a teaser, honestly I have been going to Texas and NT games the last year's in my travels, and I have seen both teams lose, not been really beaten., My thinking is, I have never believed in -1.5 favorite opening line

Good look and enjoy

KSYAS part of my thinking is when one team North Texas plays defense and really shows multi looks after 3 games you can make adjustments. NT plays straight up man then will run and jump you then double down low and very rarely goes zone teams that are experienced and seen these changes aren't in surprise anymore I'm sure Kennedy the coach of UAB has gone over the different scenarios. UAB has a lot of experienced and battle tested players . But to counter that Grant also has seen the same tapes and will alter his defensive attack Walker is in a slump and Perry can do it all. He penetrates.stops on a dime and shoots his jumper can rebound and plays great defense. When NT had Hamlett the pt gd a few years ago I thought NT would never have anyone to replace him. In comes juco Perry and NT didn't miss a beat. Meanwhile Walker who has been at Tulane Seton Hall and someplace else is a nomadic transfer portal player. But he can do all those things Perry can do and I think is probably a little better. Not sure where these 2 guys ended up on the Bob Cousy Award list but both are deserving . This is Jelly beans last year of eligibility I think
I played some teams in my conference 2 reg conf games. Then saw them in the sectionals and I always won the 3rd game but that was after we prepared our kids for the game. Of course it comes down to what team out plays the other but I think its also what coach prepares his team better. Grant is an outstanding coach and if he goes to Texas Tech like the rumors are he will be very sucessful. Kennedy UAB's coach is experienced and think he was fired . But he hit the transfer portal probably better then anyone else. The Davis kid was at bama. Gaines who is 6'6 can flat out and play D makes Jelly better because teams have to double Walker.. But NT coach knows all of this and makes his own changes and adjustments.. It should be a great game and close Just think UAB comes out a little better esp on the bds .. KSYAS THe line is something I see last when I handicapp I make up my own line and see what Vegas line is ,, If I see a 2-3 point difference I play it. I had UAB -2 so I will take them but really during the year would pass on this game To close to call But I went against myself and Took North Texas -1,5 over Wiskey and they won and covered by 1 winning by 2 pts. Sometimes your heart leans you one way But that is not a way to bet and make money Good look to everybody I did play a teaser with North Texas +7 or 8 with FAU and UConn

yes North Texas wins and covers. The cover was close but pulled thru Charlotte won the CBI North Texas the NIT and FAU the NCAA. Damn Conf USA kicking butt Perry out played and deserved the Pl of Year over Walker. But although not announced Grant is gone.. rumor is Texas Tech where he coached before Baylor . It was great seeing Scott Drew Baylors coach cheering the other night for Grant his former asst coach.

I'm still on
Cloud 9 and if FAU can win over San D St I will hedge the play because I will be on Cloud 10. Don't think the Temptations had lyrics for cloud 10 but " I know I' losing you, and If I could build my whole world around you" Go Owls on Saturday
