As noted with NC State's and North Carolina's change at QB (off the top of my head ), that can have a big effect on the team and turn a team around. With so many teams in college football, however, it's hard to keep knowledge of all these changes.
I remember last year Tim Hiller was substituted in mid-season, and Western Michigan looked like a different team on offense and was a covering machine.
