Notes
Mobley not sure

Rockets guard Cuttino Mobley was upgraded from doubtful to questionable Wednesday, but Mobley wasn't sure the nine sessions treating his sprained left ankle would be enough to get him back on the court tonight.

"We'll see tomorrow," Mobley said. "I'll see how I feel in the morning, at shootaround and make a game-time decision. It's a sprained ankle. To me, a sprained ankle is no break. You play with pain.

"But I don't know what I'm going to do."

Mobley said he hated missing Tuesday's game in San Antonio.

"I've got no hobbies. My son's not here yet. I don't have anything to do," Mobley said. "It hurts not playing. I don't like not playing. Sitting out games, I don't like that. I don't know what player does like that. If they do, they're crazy. Hopefully, I'll get as much treatment as possible. It's a lot better."

Mobley did practice Wednesday, but it was almost all dedicated to preparing for the Lakers.

"Cuttino miraculously was out here today," coach Rudy Tomjanovich said. "We didn't do anything live. We're a little worn down. I didn't want to take a chance on another injury. It's possible (he could play). If it was just desire, he would be out there for 48 minutes."

X-rays negative

X-rays taken Tuesday on Steve Francis' sprained and bruised left wrist were negative. An MRI scheduled to help determine the cause of Francis' recurring migraine headaches was postponed for a second time.

Francis said doctors told him there was no urgent need to perform the third of his tests since he developed headaches during training camp.

"It's all right," Francis said of the wrist injury, suffered in Tuesday's game. "It's just a sprained wrist. I've been getting treatment on it all day, it's going to be swollen and sore for a couple of days."

No hard feelings

Forward Glen Rice helped the Lakers win the first of their two straight championships. But after he complained during the 2000 NBA Finals about his role, Rice was sent to the Knicks before last season.

Rice said Wednesday he bears no resentment.

"I look at it as another ballclub that's in our way of trying to get our mission accomplished," Rice said. "That's it. It doesn't carry any added incentive. I just try to go out there and try to do the best I can do and to help the team try to get off the slide we're on."

When asked if he felt he was not as appreciated for his role in the Lakers' 1999-2000 championship run as he has been with the Rockets, even while struggling, Rice spoke only of his appreciation of his time with the Lakers.

"One of the things I have to be very appreciative about is I had an opportunity to go there and win a championship," he said.
