ND receiving corps takes hit

Tribune Staff report

Notre Dame may be without two of its top three wide receivers for Tuesday night's Insight Bowl.

Matt Shelton (knee) and Maurice Stovall (hamstring) are "doubtful'' according to a source close to the team.

And sack leader Justin Tuck is considered questionable because of a lingering knee problem. In three seasons, Tuck has collected a school-record 24 1/2 sacks. This year he has 47 tackles, including 14 for lost yardage. He has another year of eligibility, but hasn't said whether he will return or enter the NFL draft.

Shelton has been ND's deep threat with 19 catches for 518 yards and six touchdowns. Stovall is third on the team with 21 catches for 313 yards and one touchdown. Likely to see more action along with starter Rhema McKnight are Jeff Samardzija and Carlyle Holiday.

Thanks for the info, I will do some research on this game. OSU is looking better and better by the minute. OSU also took a hit as they suspended 4 players due to bar fights. They are not key players on the team though as they have beaten Oregon without them.

These injuries only look to strengthen a play on the beavers! On them already -3.5! Hope they light ND up!

i agree with being on the beavers tomorrow. im a big nd supporter but i can't see how they'll keep up with oregon st. they haven't had a bowl win since the '93 season against A&M. i have a feeling they'll get down early and that'll spell trouble with quinn at the healm and a lack of quality receivers to throw to.
