Just as it was worth keeping in mind that Fromm?s proficient performance in last spring?s G-Day game was against the second-string defense, fans also should keep in mind that the App State defense, while good by mid-major standards, is not of Power 5-conference quality.

And, because of that, Fromm got away with staring down his intended receivers (a common problem with freshman QBs) and with lofting quite a few dying duck passes that likely would have been interceptions against Notre Dame or an SEC opponent.

Fromm was clearly committed to UGA as his college destination early on. So, having to run into the scoreless game with little to no warm-up, then leading his team?s offense to the tune of 300 yards and 31 unanswered points seemed almost like old hat to the big kid with the Hollywood good looks.

Just look at how Fromm played against the Mountaineers. Yes, he had an encouraging performance, but he wasn?t the world-beater many fans tried to make him out to be both during and after the game. His stats were respectable, but he still had plenty of issues, notably forcing too many passes and staring down receivers. His highlight of the game, a 34-yard TD pass to Javon Wims in the second quarter, was thrown up for grabs and would likely have been picked by 80 percent of the defenses Georgia will face this season. On a third-and-goal in the second quarter, he had an opportunity for his second TD pass, but stared directly at this receiver, never even hinting he was looking elsewhere. Georgia settled for a field goal.

His performance against Appalachian State was also pretty equivalent to Eason?s first game with a ?G? on his helmet. Against UNC in last year?s season opener, Eason was 8 of 12 for 131 yards and 1 TD. Like Fromm?s game on Saturday, that was nothing special, but it was serviceable, and it gave fans some hope to latch onto. But acting like Fromm is head-and-shoulders above where Eason was at this early point in his career is disingenuous.
...............................................

The fact is that Fromm is right out of high school.

Not only will he be playing a very good Notre Dame team, he will be playing in the hallowed halls of Notre Dame. If the pressure does not get to him I will be amazed.

Chubb and Sony will get their runs but Notre Dame is going to be committed to stopping that Georgia run game, forcing Fromm to win with his arm. Its not that Fromm does not have a good arm, but he is no where near the rocket Eason throws at times.

One other aspect I always think about is this is not a SEC game. The Bulldogs can lose this and still win the SEC championship game. It may be in back of their minds.

I smell money and it smells green.

The infrastructure of it is so different than any other stadium I?ve played in,? Bellamy said. ?It?s kind of flat and the fans are closer. I can?t really compare it to any SEC stadium, especially with the Jesus being in the end zone, that?s something you always hear about. It?s just so legendary. It?s very different. It?s very different. And I don?t think I?ve ever played in a stadium like that.

Don't like being on the other side as you maybe we get a middle and ND wins by 3-4.

I think the Dawgs D is stout this year and will keep them in long enough to have a chance to win. Also Eason getting hurt may have been one of those addition by subtraction things  I agree Fromm isn't gonna win this game for them but honestly think the run game + defense very well may do it.

Like Notre Dame, Georgia can be expected to do whatever it takes to keep the Irish running game at bay. Including Wimbush?s 106 yards, the Irish had three backs go over 100 yards rushing for the first time since 1954. Running back Josh Adams had 161 yards and two touchdowns and his speedy running mate Dexter Williams added 124 yards and a score. So negating that will be objective No. 1.

But the Irish also believe Wimbush is undervalued and under-appreciated as a passer. The 6-1, 225-pounder threw for 3,187 yards and 37 touchdowns as a high school senior and, with his obvious running ability, is a real threat to cut the ball loose on the run-pass option plays they feature almost every down.

That will put a lot of pressure on Georgia?s secondary, which comes into othis contest as a bruised and battered bunch. Senior cornerback Malkom Parrish is expected to miss his second straight game with a broken foot, and he is the Bulldogs? best run-stopping defensive back. Also, Aaron Davis, who moved from star to cornerback to replace Parrish, continues to be dogged by a hamstring injury. Davis is expected to play, however.

Meanwhile, the Irish feature a top-grade receiving corps and tall and agile tight ends. Equanimeous St. Brown is 6-5 and so are all their tight ends. That will create a matchup problem for the Bulldogs? defensive backs.

The key then, will be for Georgia?s front seven to keep the heat on Wimbush and the pressure off the back end of the defense.\

In one respect, this contest might actually have the most implications of any. It is, quite probably, an eliminator. The Fighting Irish, coming off a disastrous 2016 campaign and unheralded in preseason rankings, would still have a long way to go before they can think about rising all the way to a Playoff invitation. But a victory against the team many observers had pegged as the SEC East favorite would wake up the first few of the echoes. The Bulldogs, who also have a long road ahead, must keep their non-conference ledger clean.

Georgia QB Jake Fromm handled his relief appearance well against Appalachian State. But with starter Jacob Eason sidelined for an unknown period, the freshman must now deliver on a much larger stage. The veteran backfield duo of Nick Chubb and Sony Michel will help, but LB Nyles Morgan and the Irish defense will make Fromm prove himself in the passing game. Notre Dame got a solid performance from QB Brandon Wimbush, who made excellent use of RB Josh Adams and WR Equanimeous St. Brown against Temple a week ago. They should pose a bigger challenge for DT Trent Thompson and the Georgia defense.
