The answer is 39, or if you want to get really technical there are 40 time zones. The International Space Station uses Greenwich Mean Time, so let's say 39 on earth and one above earth.

wrong.
there are 27 time zones.

You could say there are 39 different "local times" and be correct, but "local time" is not equal to a "time zone".

How do you manage to get your own question wrong?:0002

I never thought I would use celestial navigation off a ship, but sure as shit, my professor was right.. someday I will use it.

What time zone would they use on the moon if they ever get there?

There are several underground time zones that are only known and used by the international triumvirate and allies, so this answer is *technically* unknown. Also, places like Area 51 and the Bermuda Triangle have separate time zones, duh.

Wrong, there are 39 time zones or 40 if you count ISS.

And actually under your logic there would be 24 not 27.

wrong again simpleton. There are 3 additional time zones created by the international date line.
In your list, you'll notice that there are more than one "standard time" listed for each time zone.

Here's an example -
PST Philippine Standard Time H Hotel Time Zone UTC+08 480 2016-12-01 12:32
CST China Standard Time H Hotel Time Zone UTC+08 480 2016-12-01 12:32

For a simple to understand example, look at the state of Arizona, which doesn't recognize daylight savings time.
The "time zone" is a constant and doesn't move geographically. The "standard time" changes on the clocks.

Wrong again.........not going to bother explaining this to you, I give up.

The answer is 39.

Or if you want to go back to 1800's (when created) you could say it is 24, There is no way the answer is 27, but as I said I won't even bother trying to explain this.

here, I even went to google and pulled a reference line for you.

If each time zone were one hour apart, there would be 24 in the world.

However, the International Date Line creates 3 more. In addition, several time zones are only 30 or 45 minutes apart, increasing the total number of standard time zones even further.

I've got about 9 years of hands on learning with celestial navigation and UTC/GMT. You're confusing "standard time" with actual time zones. It's a common mistake, sort of like people that think "Infinity" is a rational number.

marine.....I am not going to bother explaining this to you, you don't seem to realize or understand that time zones are a human construct, if humans create a spot on earth that is a different time then another time that is a time zone.

I am not going to try to explain any further because you can't grasp this.

By the way google isn't a reference one I would use to support a claim, but just for the record google says the answer is 39 (or 40 if you count ISS).

You just don't seem to get this:facepalm:

.

If each time zone were one hour apart, there would be 24 in the world.

and if they were 30 minutes apart, there would be 48, so what! This has nothing to do with anything, because there are not 24 time zones on planet earth and they are not all one hour apart.

Human beings decide what time it is in the area they live in, if you walk from one time to another time you are crossing a time zone.

Time Zone definition........

a geographic region within which the same time is used

At any one time planet earth can have 39 places on earth with a different time then the other one, thus 39 time zones.
