But Cotton -- now famous for orchestrating the controversial letter to Iran with the signatures of 46 of his GOP colleagues -- finally got the chance to do just that on Monday evening. Cotton began, as one does, with Adolf Hitler.

"The world is growing ever more dangerous, and our defense spending is wholly inadequate to confront the danger," Cotton said. "To be exact, during the last four or five years, the world has grown gravely darker. We have steadily disarmed, partly with a sincere desire to give a lead to other countries and partly due to the severe financial pressure of the time. But a change must now be made. We must not continue longer on a course in which we alone are growing weaker while every other nation is growing stronger."

He continued: "I wish I could take credit for those eloquent but ominous words, but I cannot. Winston Churchill sounded that warning in 1933 as Adolf Hitler had taken power in Germany. Tragically, Great Britain and the West didn't heed this warning, when they might have strangled that monster in his crib. Rather they let the locust continue to eat away at the common defense."

Rep. Aaron Schock (R-Ill.) will resign from Congress amid a controversy over his spending habits, Politico reported Tuesday.

In a statement to Politico, the congressman said he will resign effective March 31.

"I do this with a heavy heart," reads the statement. "Serving the people of the 18th District is the highest and greatest honor I have had in my life. I thank them for their faith in electing me and letting me represent their interests in Washington."

Schock continued: "But the constant questions over the last six weeks have proven a great distraction that has made it too difficult for me to serve the people of the 18th District with the high standards that they deserve and which I have set for myself. I have always sought to do what?s best for my constituents and I thank them for the opportunity to serve."

Schock's spending came under scrutiny after a Washington Post report highlighted the Republican's newly redecorated office, allegedly modeled after the popular British period drama "Downton Abbey." The report noted that the office's decorator, Annie Brahler, remodeled the office for free, sparking an ethics complaint against the congressman.

Schock ultimately repaid $40,000 for the redecoration, but the initial story set off a series of reports on the 33-year-old congressman's lavish spending habits. Subsequent reports detailed a taxpayer funded weekend in New York for his staffers, a dozen charter flights worth over $40,000 on donors' planes and $24,000 in campaign funds spent on concerts and events, including a sold-out Katy Perry concert.

Other reports raised questions over Schock's relationships with donors. In February, a complaint was filed against Schock over the alleged sale of his home to a campaign donor for a significant profit. And earlier this week, the Chicago Tribune reported that multiple Schock donors were directly involved in a 2014 property deal in which the congressman paid one donor for a commercial property, and then took out out a mortgage for that property from a bank run by other donors.

Schock was first elected to office in 2008, becoming the youngest member of the House of Representatives. (Currently, he is the third youngest member serving.) Prior to his stint in Congress, Schock served in the Illinois House of Representatives.

Under Illinois election law, Gov. Bruce Rauner (R) must issue a writ of election to county clerks within five days of the office vacancy. From that point, the state must hold a special election for the empty seat within 115 days.

"This is a sad day for the people of Illinois and the 18th District," Rauner said in a statement.

The disruption caused by the Islamic State surely gives hawks an easier sell to the American public, but the GOP hasn't actually presented a strategy for dealing with the terrorist group other than attacking Obama for not doing enough.

Donors may be a more important factor. The shadow campaigns for the 2016 presidential primary have forced Republicans to seek donors early, and some of the deepest GOP pockets are very hawkish. Not only do those donors love Cotton, their support also makes other leading Republicans think twice about criticizing him or his neoconservative positions.

Tom Cotton, in other words, is a product of a party that is getting nostalgic for the spring of 2003. Big government is back in style.

To be sure, there was some libertarian pushback to the Iran letter. Reason's Matt Welch called Cotton "a surveillance-loving interventionist nightmare," while Cato Institute Director of Foreign Policy Studies Justin Logan described the letter and the ensuing controversy a "clownshow."

But Logan concluded his essay on a note of resignation: "In a party where the entire foreign policy apparatus has been taken over by neoconservatives, there?s no consequence for this sort of statesmanship, if one can even call it that."
.................................................................................................

this will never work.

going back to the hawkish war mongering is useless.

America is smarter than that now.

8 long years of Hillary

I think that Hillary will absorb the power of the Presidency. She will lay low and be more reactive. She will just go with the flow and try to stay out of major scandals during her administration.

and just like in Billy Jack - movie - there aint one god damn thing anyone will be able to do about it.

The question yet to be answered, however, is whether he can gain traction among Republican primary voters who remain opposed to issues where Bush is very much an outlier among other GOP candidates -- immigration and the Common Core education standards. A new Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll released Monday found that 49 percent of Republican voters could see themselves voting for Bush -- down from 63 percent in December

WASHINGTON, March 17 (Reuters) - U.S. House Speaker John Boehner on Tuesday called on former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to turn over her personal email server to a neutral third party to decide which of her emails are personal and which are public record.

"I think this is the fairest way to make sure that we have all the facts that belong to the public," Boehner told reporters at a news conference

Former Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.) said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Senate Republicans really just want to go to war with Iran.

?It's true of Benjamin Netanyahu and it's true of them, they want war. This notion of 'Hey we don't like this deal, we want a better deal.' Well how are you going to get one?" Frank said Tuesday in an interview on HuffPost Live. "First of all, they make it harder for the president to get a deal."

Last week 47 Republican senators signed a letter drafted by Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) to Iranian ayatollahs warning them that any deal struck with the Obama administration over their country?s nuclear program could be canceled by a future administration or Congress.

"To say that the president isn't really in control and we are, it's totally hypocritical," Frank said. "Under Ronald Reagan and both Bushes, the Republicans used to emphasize the importance of the executive [office]. This totally betrays anything people like John McCain have ever said about how to conduct foreign policy."

Yea under normal circumstances I think that was very low handed. Especailly having a 60 day Sen. sign the letter. Bunch of pussies. But they understand Obama cannot be trusted to do this deal. Obama wants it pushed through by the end of March no matter what according to Kerry. Its a freaking mess. Just like everything else that surrounds this administration.

Fresh off his party's victory in this week's parliamentary election, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday walked back a statement from earlier this week in which he had ruled out a "two-state" solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

"I haven't changed my policy," Netanyahu said Thursday in an interview with NBC News Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent Andrea Mitchell.

"I don't want a one-state solution. I want a sustainable, peaceful two-state solution," he added.

But just a few days earlier, in the midst of what then looked like an uphill battle for Netanyahu's Likud Party, the prime minister said that a two-state solution would never happen on his watch. ?I think that anyone who is going to establish a Palestinian state today and evacuate lands, is giving attack grounds to the radical Islam against the state of Israel," he told an Israeli news website on Monday, one day before the Israeli election.

These comments contradicted a 2009 speech, in which Netanyahu endorsed the two-state approach as a way to attain peace in the region. In July 2014, however, Netanyahu made clear he had no interest in a fully sovereign Palestinian state.

Netanyahu added in Thursday's interview that if the current Palestinian territories did attain statehood, the result would be a "terrorist state" because the Palestinians would receive arms from Iran. As long as that was the case, he said, a two-state solution was not possible.

The prime minister's comments earlier in the week prompted a threat from White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest, who said Wednesday that the U.S. would "re-evaluate our position and the path forward in this situation," and might even explore pressing for Palestinian statehood at the United Nations.

The Obama administration also took issue with Netanyahu's election-day text message blasts warning supporters that ?Arab voters are going to the polls in droves.?

?Rhetoric that seeks to marginalize one segment of their population is deeply concerning and it is divisive and I can tell you that these are views the administration intends to communicate directly to the Israelis," Earnest said.

When asked on Thursday by MSNBC host Andrea Mitchell to respond to allegations that he was a racist, Netanyahu simply said, "I'm not."

At least six businesses in Austin, Texas, have been plastered with stickers reading ?Exclusively For White People," drawing condemnation from the state?s residents, lawmakers and NAACP representatives.

Facebook user Brianna Smith posted a photo Wednesday of a circular sticker on the outside of a display window at Rare Trends, an Austin clothing boutique in a historically black neighborhood. The sticker reads: "Exclusively For White People. Maximum of 5 colored customers. Colored BOH staff accepted. Sponsored by the City of Austin Contemporary Partition and Restoration Program." ("BOH staff" refers to "back of house" workers, employees who do not usually interact with customers.) The sticker also features an official City of Austin logo.

"This just goes to show racism is very much alive TODAY," Smith wrote underneath the photo. "This was a hate crime created by someone who had way to much [sic] time on their hands. This sticker has been unknowingly posted on many private owned business in Austin."

In a statement Wednesday, Austin Mayor Steve Adler called the appearance of the stickers "an appalling and offensive display of ignorance in our city."

"Our city is a place where respect for all people is a part of our spirit and soul," Adler said. "We will keep it that way."

Adler noted that the stickers' use of the City of Austin logo was unauthorized. The city has no Contemporary Partition and Restoration Program.

WASHINGTON -- As top lawmakers and civil rights leaders gathered in Selma, Alabama, earlier this month to commemorate the civil rights movement, House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) took an all-expenses paid trip to a luxurious Georgia resort sponsored by a conservative group.

The weekend trip was paid for by the American Enterprise Institute, a right-leaning think tank in Washington that sponsored an annual conference on Sea Island from March 5-8 that Scalise attended. According to a disclosure report Scalise filed Wednesday that was noted by Legistorm, AEI spent $2,955.50 on airfare for Scalise and on lodging and meals for both Scalise and his wife, Jennifer Scalise. The couple's hotel, The Cloister at Sea Island, is "an oceanfront oasis," according to its website.

Scalise's decision to skip the weekend in Selma raised eyebrows after Scalise was embroiled in a controversy late last year over a speech he gave to a white supremacist group in 2002. Scalise said he was unaware that the group, founded by former Louisiana state Rep. David Duke, advocated for "white civil rights."

News of the speech prompted calls for Scalise to resign from Congress, and in the weeks that followed, Scalise, a leader of the conservative faction of the House Republican caucus, took steps to repair his reputation with civil rights groups. As early as February, Scalise told reporters it was unlikely he would attend the events in Selma, but added, "We're definitely going next year."

Jaxx,
I'll ask you again, what exactly is such a"mess"? I realize that your going to be tempted to parrot me propaganda, but I'm looking for real life tangible issues. What can you possibly think that this administration has made a "mess" of? I'm quite curious.

Good luck with that, FDC. You'll get no response from Jaxx-O because he knows absolutely nothing, not one fact.
