Its rare when I get to play an off the beaten path game and I have seen both off the path teams play. via TV though
Sam Houston -8 over UT Rio Grande ****
Its the Bearkats vs Vaqueros from the Texas. Watched them both played Texas and Sam although had to play on campus at UT in there small Gregory gym hung in there vs the powerful Longhorns. It was 30-30 I think before Texas went on a run. But Bearkats have the best player in there new WAC conference in former Tex AM super star Flagg. Nuttall was or could of been POY of WAC but transferred out But in comes Flagg who I think is even better at 6'7 and plays gd/fd . Even when Sam Played Texas a few weeks ago I thought Flagg was the best player on the court. He is avg 19 pts a game and UT Rio is going to have big time problems holding him down. Sam has Lampley who can score and a solid fd in Ikpe who avgs almost 6 assists per game. Cook and Ray are also solid gds. UT Rio has Johnson at 6'6 who can score or rebound. They are not good a rebounding team or 3 pt shooting team. They lost to Texas 85-55 in Texas's big arena where Sam lost by 16 in Texas's bandbox.
Flagg was on the cover a few years ago on Lindy's and Athlon pre-season magazines and scored over 1,000 pts for Tex AM Not sure why he transferred or was a portal transfer but this kid can play and will be a NBA player someday. The seeing eye test for these 2 teams is Sam overall is better. Plays much better defense giving Texas 73 pts to UT Rio's 88. Think Flagg will score and rebound and Sam gets a double digit win . But I forgot to mention Sam is the worst FT% in the country shooting 55 %. But UT Rio shoots better at 67%.. both teams can't hit Ft;s
Lost West Vir but didn't know Taz Sherman there best player was out with covid oh well
