LINDA LOVELACE, STAR OF 1972 PORN FLICK DEEP THROAT DIES
Denver, Colorado, April 23 AFP - Linda Boreman, best-known as Linda Lovelace for her role in 1972's pornographic Deep Throat, the most popular skin flick of all time, has died of injuries sustained in a car crash earlier this month, hospital officials said.
The nursing supervisor of Denver Health Medical Centre in Denver, Colorado told AFP that Boreman, 53, was taken off life support at around 2200 GMT yesterday (10am NZT Tuesday).
She had been in the hospital since April 3, after she lost control of her car and rolled twice on a highway in the western US state.
An investigation by the Colorado State Patrol is underway, but Boreman's former husband, Larry Marchiano, said ``negligent driving'' was likely a factor.
Boreman penned four autobiographies about her career as a pornographic actress, which began with the notorious Deep Throat, a film declared obscene by the state of New York.
It nonetheless has grossed more than $US600 million ($NZ1.35 billion) worldwide.
Boreman went on to become an ardent opponent of the adult film industry.
She said she was the victim of coercion and abuse at the hands of her manager and former husband, Chuck Traynor, who forced her at gunpoint, she said in the early 1980s, to perform in some of the explicit scenes that made Deep Throat one of the most popular hardcore pornographic films of all time.
