dad just told me they lost JOD last night
frown.gif

but he had NO details, i asked him if the sandbag dike gave way, but he said something about he thought it was a cement wall....does that mean that they built a wall levee around it to try and protect it, or did a sandbag dike give, and then the water pressure caved in part of the actual stadium?

that would SUCK

Mama

Been watching the news on the Mississippi
River and it ain't cool at all. Trying to get a picture of where you, redsfan and djv
are in relation to what they are showing on the news. Thought redsfann said he was around Davenport? Saw pictures there and water was really high. Just wanted to let you guys know if you wanted to I've got a place up here in Washington you can hole up for a time. My wife is laughing at me. She said " oh yeh bet those people would love to come out here for another 6.8 earthquake" Never thought about it that way.
biggrin.gif
Seriously though have a small motel and offer stands.
Hope things improve for you and the creek doesn't get any higher.

Spud....Redsfann in right in Davenport....that's the place we've been talking about, and i guess they are all over the national news now....i'm WAY up the mississippi in MN, but Davenport is my hometown, and i'm there alot visiting my dad, and this stadium i keep referring to, well, have plans to attend a couple of games there in june, and now have no idea if it will even be used for the Quad City Riverbandits for the rest of the season.

Yup, not a pretty flood scene at all in Davenport. St. Paul, which is about where i am, their airport is underwater, but i don't live near any of the local flooding, so rarely see what it's doing from high atop my hill
smile.gif

i'm really guessing that djv has it quite bad in LaCrosse, too, as it's about right in between my house and davenport, and right on the river.
frown.gif

at least crests are all just about here, and they all have better things ahead......now it's probably about time for St. Louis to get hit
frown.gif

but since you brought up washington and the dry lands....LOL, i'll be flying into Spokane on June twenty sixth, and staying a couple days in Pasco, before driving to montana for the weekend.....so please ask the earthquakes to stay away....LOL

This old world is getting smaller. Got a couple of questions for ya. #1 My wife is from Spokane and has relatives in Richland
Do you go to tri cities occaisionally? #2
Are you familiar with a place called Thief River Falls? My wife has family back there and says it's in your neck of the woods.
Probably only ones there huh?

i've only been to the tri cities twice before, have an aunt and uncle, and a few cousins left out in that area, but when i was younger, they bounced between Bremerton and Yakima (with another set of cousins in Tacoma), and was there at least once a year!! Once they all settled in, in the tris, the last time i was out there was for my youngest cousins wedding in the summer of 1994. This summer trip, is actually for a mountain, steak dinner get away in Montana, but since GEG is the easiest place for us to fly in to, the sweetheart that's taking me (MGDguy) came up with the wonderful idea of visiting my relatives while we're there, too!

As far as Thief River Falls goes, it's a LONG way away from me, i live in the pretty much the SE corner of the state, and it's in the NW corner, and it's a VERY tall state
smile.gif

(i think they had snow up there last night, too...LOL) i know it's only 41 and rainy and windy even in the SE corner of the state today, which is NO FAIR, when chicago is in the sixties, and isn't all that far away

Now I know why my wife's Dad didn't go back
to Minnesota after WWII

Spokane weather has to be a whole hell of a lot better than
Theif River Falls. Sounds as though you have a great trip planned this summer. You'll love the Big Sky Country. Any way kid if you ever decide to make a trip all the way to the Coast the offer is open for a rack and grub. We're really not all hicks and mountain men out here.

The river here is on the way down. It was the second highest on record. Dikes all held up. Spud you live in one of the great places there is. That ground shaking might not happen that bad for another 100 years. I love to drive out west. Not much traffic and the view is just wonderfull. MGDguy you lucky dog. You be kind to the BahamaMama. Oh hell with it go grazie. We get old to darn fast. Spud I come that way, I shall stop and say hello. I just get on I-90 and Im there in 2.5 days.

Sorry, mama-- didn't see this until just now. Yes, they lost JOD sometime early Monday morning. The wind was blowing so hard, it was creating 6 foot waves-- one of which took out a concrete barrier near the fron gates of JOD. Yes, they built a concrete and earthen dike around the stadium, and things were looking good until the high winds hit. Gusts up to 55 MPH both sunday and monday.
Not good... even though the water may crest at a lower level than in '93, I think there will be more damage due to the high winds sending the water over the levees.
Front Street Brewery's owner was on the news last night, saying she might shut down her business if Davenport doesn't build a permanent wall. OUCH! Thats my favorite microbrew in the Quad Cities!!
The news at 6 pm yesterday was a trip... All the major networks have been interviewing the Mayor-- watched Katie Couric talk to the mayor over his shoulder while the local guy talked to him live.
The winds are calm today, the crest is still forcast for late tonight at about 22.5 feet, just shy of the record 22.63 of '93.
Clean up will be a bitch, thats for sure. They think that if the water receeds quickly, they can same the field at JOD, but if not-- who knows what will happen.

Here's their websites pic, Reds, (sigh) The most wonderful thing about that stadium has always been the beautiful river view, but this is just a bit too upclose and personal with the fish for my liking
smile.gif

That'd be yuk if they closed Front Street
frown.gif

the whole city is so torn from those that want a flood wall without a doubt, and those that would kill to keep one from ever going up, it's hard tellin' what'll happen.

as far as seeing Yerrington on the news, i'll just bite my tongue on that one.....LOL, geez, i didn't know he was the mayor down there now. I only know him as way back as a patrolman when my ex was on the DPD, and i'll just leave it at that, UGH

Mama, my favorite memory of the ballpark is the little train they showed on the scoreboard when a real train went by. It's been a few years since I've been there but it is one of the nicest minor league parks I've been to. Always liked the Quad cities - liked going to Quad City Downs for the trotters. Always something to do when I was there. Good luck to Reds and everyone else affected by Ma Nature's latest attack.

Sisyphus-

You are certainly showing your age....
smile.gif
-- or at the very least-- how LONG its been since you have been to the Quad Cities.
The trotters have not run live at the Downs in over 10 years-- its now an OTB parlor owned by the people that own Sportsman's in Chicago.
And the train at JOD? I remember that from when I was a kid going there in the 70s, but have not seen it since, and I make it to 10-20 games a year.
Where is home now?

WOW!!!! no kidding? geez, i didn't even realize THAT one......was almost 11 years ago now, since moving out of the QC, and well, you know how much *free time* i usually don't have when visiting.
smile.gif

i do remember the train as a teen, i believe, when it was still the run down (being polite here) old gray stadium....geez that thing was in bad shape, but fun to go to, none the less.....the train i remember more vividly, is the real one, that you'd better dang well plug your ears the minute you hear it coming

The footage of this debacle is incredible. I've been working so much lately that I really haven't seen or heard too much about this. Hope you guys stay dry and out of that nasty water. Sewage must be a real problem. I'm not sure which is worse, a state under water or a state on fire, like here in Florida

i'd have to vote with fire for being worse....takes MUCH longer to recover from than it does for water to dry up, and dead fish to be moved elsewhere.

Good point Gator. I have friends in Daytona and Ocala. And fire or water. Makes no differance if they wreck everything.
