So much has been written on these 2 games.Everyone knows all the trends and angles.I'll be short then because most of it has probley been said already.
I like OU +6.5 for a strong play.Indiana beat Duke by going down low attacking Boozer and co with Jefferies. They beat Kent St by nailing 15 tre's from all over.It ain't going to happen today.OU's inside game both on offense and defense are much better.McGhee is a force with his buddy Jabari.IU's outside game can stroke it down but many of the B-10 teams this yr went out and stopped their outside attack by overplaying the perimeter.
OU has "greyhounds"everywhere. They play relentless defense both on the perimeter and the post.Price,Ere,White,Selvie,Detrick, and McGhee can all outrun the entire IU team.
They are well disciplined, move w/o the ball, are unselfish, etc, etc. You have heard this already by many.
But 2 things that standout over everything are the keys to this game. First,IU defense is very good. Many overlook that. But OU doesn't turn the ball over. They take care of the "rock".I cannot see IU's defense stopping OU's offense. With guys like Price,Ere and White dribbling, penetrating and passing the slower IU defense is in trouble.
The second key is FT shooting.OU is awesome on the line.Just in this tourney they are shooting at a pace thats hard to believe. McGhee 28-33,and the rest,11-12,12-13,6-7,15-19,and Detrick shooting the worst 6-8 for 75%.Damn send Detrick back for more FT practice.
IU has surprised everyone.Fife,Coverdale,Newton,etc.
But if I was a coach I could come up with a way to stop or slow down IU."Muscle up on Jeffries, keep his skinny ass out of the paint.Overplay the perimiter so these guys don't get open looks. If they go back door,we are greyhounds and can make up for our mistakes with our superior speed and quickness.Help side D is important.Make them make that extra pass inside because we have McGhee and Jabari waiting.
Now to stop OU."Damn, who the hell do we have to stop McGhee inside with that turn around lefty move.If he gets the ball down on the block I want the strong side Fd or gd dropping on him to help who ever has him posting up.Everyone collapses on him.front him, don't make him get that ball inside.Forget their outside shooters for now.
And we must stop their transition game.Their gds can fly.So can their fowards and Mcghee. If we take the inside game away mcghee moves out to the baseline. Then Price and co. take over.
Enough said. OU -6.5 for a very strong play.
Will post this and come back in a few for the terp-jayhawk game.
