The college football betting landscape hasn?t changed a whole lot in the Big 12. A lot of betting sharps know that it?s going to basically be down to two teams, Oklahoma and Texas, with Oklahoma State trying to push for an upset.
Both Oklahoma and Texas return their Heisman and Heisman-candidate quarterbacks, Sam Bradford and Colt McCoy.
Oklahoma figures to have a very dangerous offense with Braford back. As many people remember, they scored more than 60 points in four straight games and even though they lost their top two wide receivers and top four offensive linemen, the Sooners always reload. Especially on the offensive line, you won?t find many football wagering handicappers who believe the Sooners will be weak on the line of scrimmage.
The Sooners have a deep backfield and they are going to ? once again ? be able to run the ball on pretty much anybody. With Bradford picking apart defenses, they should have a relatively easy time running the ball. On defense, the Sooners return nine starters.
Meanwhile, Texas is also loaded, which will make for a pretty good race in this division. The Longhorns return Colt McCoy, who completed 77% of his passes last year, along with four of their five offensive linemen. That?s consistency.
The Longhorns will have some work to do on defense, especially since they lost dominant defensive end Brian Orakpo to the first round of the NFL draft. They also lost a couple of linebackers and a cornerback, but as usual, Texas will still bring it on defense.
The Longhorns and the Sooners will meet up as per usual for the Red River Shootout on November 17th, which will likely decide this conference.
Both teams should be undefeated, although the Sooners will have a tougher schedule with matchups against the BYU Cougars and the Miami Hurricanes.
One team that could throw a kink into the plans ? a la Texas Tech last year ? will be the Oklahoma State Cowboys, who are loaded offensively this year.
The Cowboys have been building to this point for a couple of years and weren?t able to knock off any big boys last year but they could have a decent shot this year. The Cowboys will welcome the Longhorns to T. Boone Pickens stadium, which will be rocking, and they?ll try to invoke some real bedlam in Oklahoma in the final week of the year.
A lot of sports picks have Oklahoma winning it all but don?t be surprised if Texas or OK State win the Big 12.
