You know Jes and I's feelings on spraying chemi's anyway but add in the fact we have a well we really don't want to spray anything.

But, this fawkin thistle shit or whatever is taking over my yard! Any thoughts on what will take care of it?

Thanks!

I like Handicapper's suggestion from another thread, a hungry goat and enough rope for the radius of your yard.

Have problems with this stuff - having had cancer at the age of 31, I'm just hyper-actively against anything that contains carcinogens or developmental or reproductive toxins. I might consider it except for three things: proximity to our garden (some of it is 10 feet away), kids that basically live outdoors all summer (and a bunch of dogs), and the well. I realize I can't protect my kids from every carcinogen in the world, but I will limit their exposure as much as I can.

Thinking I am either just going to dig them all up, or try the vinegar/salt/detergent solution...or probably both. And, I'll definitely be cursing Canada the whole time.

Thanks for the response - I didn't figure there would be any easy way.

Just put golf balls all over your lawn and invite FDC over with a 60 degree wedge. He'll miss every ball and cut up all of your thistle.

We tried pouring boiling vinegar over them already... didn't seem to phase them too much. I think I'm going to be a little more aggressive and slit all their stems and then pour the 20% mix over them, with some salt thrown in for good measure.

It looks like virginia pepperweed from the image.

If its about to bloom white blooms, tender and pulls up easy, and smells, that resembles fresh peas. Then its virginia pepperweed.

Good Luck getting rid of it. If you find something that works please let me know.

the above will knock it and about 250 other weeds dead in its ass.

one of the local feed and seeds store may carry it..

mix should be about 3oz per 4 gal. backpack sprayer..

1oz per gal. to watch them scream in pain
