Welcome to my personal hell on earth. This is a war I've fought for many years. Oh, I've won a few skirmishes. Quit once a few years ago for over a year and a half. Friend of mine has a baby, gives out cigars. I take one, shouldn't be a problem right? Stupid cigar led to buying a pack of cigarettes the next day.

Quit once for about eight months. Mother-in-law goes in hospital. Watched my wife grieve. God I gotta have a cigarette!!

Anyhow, today begins another battle. Cold damn turkey. My mouth is already starting to secrete this fluid that asks the question, okay dumb ass where's the smoke?

It's a horrible horrible habit. It's filthy, it makes everything stink. In the car, at home. And it is damn near getting expensive.

But when you remember how good it tastes after a meal, with a drink, with a cup of coffee. Jesus-got to quit typing this crap.

Anyhow, I apolagize for my going on about this. It helps pass the time. I hope I didn't come off as a whiner. It's a tough time.

Tomorrow will be worse.

Good luck to you! It's a tough battle, but one that can be won!

Just be comforted knowing that all of the tobacco companies support you 100% in quitting.

Try the patches if you haven't already. I was impressed with the assist. Plus you get to have kinky, vivid dreams. Epics I tell ya. Matter of fact, the dreams were so good I lined up the patches on my back, thinking like the hedonist I am that more is always better.

I sat watching the MNF one night and watched the hives crawl up my arms. Then the swelling set in and my cock and balls grew three times their regular (huge) size. Freakshow! my fists were mallets and I was waiting at my Dr. office when he showed up for work.

Good Luck!!

Good Luck!!

Chainsaw + Twofingers................

Good Luck...........because its tough!.........Cold Turkey after 40 yrs of smoking. 3 years this August and BELIEVE ME.....BELIEVE ME
Its one of the best things I've ever done for myself. Hell, I breathe deep now.......never have to clear my throat.......no raspy coughing........and now when I hear someone else I realize what I sounded like.......(never impacted me before)

PLUS I've saved in the neighborhood of $5000 so far and NO related chest pains since quitting...gained about 10 the first year and dropped 15 since so the weight thing is and was only an excuse.

Quality of life is significantly improved.....health, sinus problems...etc. No smelly breath, no second hand for the family...you guys have kids?? Set the example!

Well, I still remember like yesterday, the support that I got here from DTB, Fletch, Jack and many others.........this time is for good and I cant believe how much better I feel now at 57 than I did in my 40s and early 50s........It makes a huge difference....DO IT!!

Don't listen to that taste great bullshit.......its the drug (nicotine) Ya wanna taste smoke ....run through a burning building... Get rid of them guys..........

I had the double habit, smoked a half to 3/4 pack a day and
dipped a tin every two days, quit cold turkey May 1, 1999.
Went thru Hell with work, life, etc. at the time. Was sick and
tired of being sick and tired. Was absolutely the most difficult
thing I've done in my life, but at the time I was FOCUSED on
QUITING. You have to be in the absolute right frame of mind
to quit tobacco. Forget patches, cutting down, etc.. You have
to have a mindset like nothing you've ever known. The addiction
to nicotine is as bad as alcohol. 5 years later, I can't stand
the smell of ANY tobacco, I LAUGH at smokers and dippers,
they stink and they are killing themselves, something I can
now look at in perspective because I used to be stupid too.
Don't think the tricky crap works, it does'nt. It takes BALLS
to quit, BIG BALLS....And for you women, just be BIGGER than
the guy sitting next to you stinking up the place smoking a
death sentence....

Good luck man. I've tried several times and always revert back. The thing is that most of my friends absolutely hate it but I have a small group of friends that chain smoke and I always end up smoking around them. Not to mention I can't keep from smoking when I'm out drinking. I've gotta quit eventually, if for no other reason than it's so damn expensive. Luckily I'm still in my early twenties so there's still time for me to quit I suppose. The only advice I can give is to stay away from other smokers if possible. Best of luck :)

hang in there i also smoked for 5 years and quit cold turkey almost 12 years ago. Cold turkey is the toughest but usually works better cos craving period for me was shorter. Use a substitute when you feel like lighting up ,munch chocolate ,gum etc
good luck

Day two.

Thanks to everyone for your words of inspiration.

Day two is always the worse. Light headed, can't concentrate. Worse of all, my friggin personality changes. I go from a mild mannered gentle soul to Super Asshole. Bless my wife for what she goes thru during this period.

Again, thanks guys. Good luck to two fingers. Hope you make it buddy.

No pepper--you need professional help my friend...and quickly.

Dawgball you're right Marlboro sends me a Christmas card every year.

I've got this weird relationship with smoking...I only smoke at work...I don't smoke when I'm off and/or have my kids. Well, I know how hard it is to quit...I need to do it myself...Best of luck and you send a certain inspiration to the rest of us smokers to quit too...
