Reds lost the home opener in their new stadium. They got shalacked by the tribe 6-1. The Reds obviously want to get a win in their new stadium so they don't think they are jinxed or anything (bad logic). But, I think it holds true that they want a win badly to start off the stadium. They are playing an interstate rival series with the tribe, so both teams want to perform well. It seems that these games did lose luster with interleague play, but they still want these pre-season games for braggin rights.

On the mound for the reds is Jimmy Anderson who has had an awesome spring. He has :Anderson, not offered a contract by the Pirates after last season, was brought into camp as a non-roster minor league invitee and won the starter's spot by going 2-1 with a 1.37 ERA in five appearances (three starts), giving up three runs and 21 hits in 19.2 innings.

He faces Brian Anderson of the tribe who has had an average spring and was on the tribe roster last year with a mid 4 era.

Up 1-0 in the sixth and had three guys watch a fly ball land in front of them and then a homer did em in. Insurance run in the 9th and tribe won 3-1

YTD 1-1 Bank= -$35

Learned valuable info from that game though. The REDS have absolutely NO offense. Going to be playing quite a few unders with this team this season. Hard to tell how well the ball traveled in the new stadium cause of the cold weather, but at first glance it doesn't appear to be much of a hitters park. Hard to tell when you are judging by the reds offense.

Got another play for this evening as Loaiza is starting for the White Sox in Houston. Sox lost 6-3 yesterday and the bats never really got going. Look for a BIG offensive output against the scrub being thrown by the astros today. Tim Redding is a brutal pitcher and without dilution of pitching of baseball could barely pitch in little league games. Last year this guy was a joke and has had a poor spring.

"recalled from Triple A New Orleans on April 19 and made his 2002 debut the next day for injured Wade Miller...was 0-4 with a 7.02 ERA (26ER/33.1IP) in June and July over 10 games (seven starts)...made his final appearance on July 21 at Chicago (NL), a 6-3 loss in relief...dropped his last start on July 14 vs. Cincinnati...optioned back to New Orleans on July 25. "

Recommended Play WHITE SOX +115

c'mon now...you cant judge the Reds offence by how they do in one stinkin preseason game. And you are right on one thing...the Battle of Ohio is no big deal anymore. People used to care about it...not anymore.

The Reds problems are far from offense.....Dunn, Kearns, Griffey and Casey are a fairly strong middle of the lineup. They will most likely rank in the top 60% of national league offenses. Their pitching is where they will struggle. I will actually try to spot a few overs with this team this year.

Good luck to ya!

White Sox came out strong against the T-ball pitcher Tim Redding. 5 early runs and held on to win 5-0. I thought the bats would get going more for the Sox, but a win is a win. Less than 24 hours before the season starts and I pray its as good as the last seven have been.

YTD 2-1 Bank = +$80

As for the reds offense, of course you cant judge them by one game, but I can judge them by all spring and it has been dismal. I don't want to knock the reds, but I have a hard time seeing them win 72 games this year. You are right, the pitching is problematic, but I don't see the offense doing much. If Griffey can break out to his old form they might hit the .500 mark, but Casey and Dunn are hyped players who need to rebound from last year and show up this year. Good luck to you.
