montana st +9

they travel to seattle to play Huskies, who are 1-1 in x-games ....

the UW barely beat c. wash (i went to game and intra-squad battle) then lost to touring all stars ... doug wrenn is 9-34 so far ... the UW has no outside game, no ballhandling and even less post presence ....

mont st is defending big sky champs, have top 2 players back and won both x-games and can put pts. on board ....

i will be following UW closely for they upcoming games vs UNLV/WY/Zags

Montana State opens its 2002-03 season in Seattle this weekend, facing the University of Washington at 3 pm in Bank of America Arena on the UW campus. thanx guys

sorry Phily i wasnt around today or i woulda replied ... I nearly took i unit on ML myself .... game went about how i figured, one scary mometn was when UW strung 9 pts in 90 secs to take 7 pt lead with 11 mins left ... they never led by more than 4 before or after Mont st quickly tied the game again after the UW run ... wrenn went 3-15 and was benched last 10 mins (believe it or not, I coached the kid in HS) the UW has young, inexperienced inside players and NO PG--wil conroy who made HUGE TOs down stretch ...

Mont st deserved outright win and easily covered the game save the one spurt of sweat ...

I attended game and here is info from UW site ...

SEATTLE (AP) - Pete Conway and Jason Erickson each scored 14 points as Montana spoiled the debut of Washington head coach Lorenzo Romar with a 56-53 win Sunday. It was the Bobcats' first season-opening win on the road since 1963. Both teams displayed poor shooting and sloppy ballhandling in the low-scoring game. Montana State (1-0) shot a meager 36 percent and turned the ball over 19 times, but made its free throws down the stretch to keep ahead of Washington (0-1).

Romar played point guard for Washington from 1978-80 and compiled a 93-88 record coaching the last six seasons at St. Louis and Pepperdine. He saw his new team close to within one point at 54-53 on Jeffrey Day's 3-pointer with 20.1 seconds to play. It wasn't enough. Erickson, last season's Big Sky Conference MVP, scored the game's final two points at the free throw line. A 3-point attempt to tie the game by Washington's Curtis Allen bounced off the rim at the buzzer. While Montana State was outscored 24-16 in the paint, Casey Reynolds was the game's leading rebounder with 10.

Washington, which split its two exhibition games, was led by the 10 points of Day, who also pulled down nine rebounds. Freshman center Anthony Washington played well in his first collegiate game with 8 points in 14 minutes, but sat much of the second half because of foul trouble. The Huskies struggled early on offense. Doug Wrenn, who averaged 19.5 points and was an All-Pac 10 selection last season, missed his first seven shots. He finished with 6 points on 3-of-15 shooting. Washington shot 31 percent in the first half while Montana State hit 33 percent en route to a 25-23 edge at the break.
