Round 1 plays (4pts):
Alejandro Canizares to beat Chris Wood +115 @ 5Dimes
Easy to oppose Wood. He returned to action after a two-month injury layoff in the Volvo World Match Play Championship where he progressed through the round-robin stage, but lost in the next round and then played the following week in the BMW PGA Championship, but had to withdraw through injury again. He could finally return to practising last week, so I really doubt that he will be competitive on this tough course. Canizares, for his part, has two top-10 finishes in his last four starts and lost in a playoff for this title in 2010.
Alexander Noren to beat Joost Luiten +100 @ 5Dimes
Two players in great form - Noren has finished 4th in his last two starts and Luiten has finished 11th, 1st, 10th and 2nd in his last four starts. But Luiten has yet to finish in the top-40 in three attempts on this course, whereas Noren has played in each of the last six years and improved his position every time - last year he finished 15th, but had been 2nd at the cut. On that basis, there is enough value in these odds to warrant a play on the Swede on this particular course.
Peter Lawrie to beat Gregory Bourdy +100 @ Pinnacle [also available @ Bet365]
These two have played in ten common events in 2013, but Bourdy has only finished ahead of Lawrie twice. With a poor record on this course, apart from 6th in 2010, he should struggle to beat Lawrie who has played in the last ten Opens de France and missed the cut only once (2004).
