I PERSONALLY THINK THAT THIS GAME COMES DOWN TO COACHING. TEXAS, IN MY OPINION, LACKS SOME PRETTY BASIC COACHING FUNDAMENTALS NEEDED TO BEAT OU. I LOVE OU +3

BUT PLEASE, I NEED SOME INSIGHT FROM OUTSIDE THE STATES OF OKLAHOMA AND TEXAS:D

i took texas even

i took texas even

a couple weeks ago, but I am buying OU to 3.5 and relaxing ... hard to go against OU's D braintrust & Simms history in game... and hows roy williams?

I am eagerly looking for the under but it will be nowhere near where it was last year .. both teams will be ever so careful in their gameplans, esp FH ... a big TO or return will influence this game for sure ...

It's hard for me to get a good read on this game because both teams are actually very similar. Texas has been lethargic in every game, with the UNC game being the only one where we showed any emotion or playbook.

I know we have the talent to win this game. We are loaded, but we have yet to put together a full game and gel as a team. This is probably the first game since I could actually remember where I really don't have a clue how Texas is going to do.

I'm convinced that we'll play a 3-3-5 for most of our snaps. We'll ditch a DT in favor of Cedric Griffin. Tubbs will be all by his lonesome inside and he'll be expected to control OU's interior OL. Redding and our DE opposite will be crashing inside a great deal to help him.

Our pass rush will come from our LB's and our secondary, not our DL -- unless it's third and long or if OU's OL just can't handle Tubbs' strength or Pickryl's recovery speed. We'll continue to zone blitz and look for a push inside from Tubbs and whatever LB we'll have blitzing off of his hip. Lee Jackson will also be coming outside. No doubt we'll bring DJ, but I expect he'll be used more often as a cleanup guy who runs free and makes plays in the running game and short passing game. The playmaker may well be whatever guy we bring from the secondary on CB blitzes (I hope these are rare) or late safety blitzes down the middle.

OU's natural temptation will be to go to their two back set and see if they can run inside or fake inside and run their little outside toss play. By formation, they should be able to do that. They'll have us outnumbered. However, I seriously question whether their personnel can pull it off. If they can, then that will open up a lot of things for them. Our basic gambit is that three DL can control the LOS, freeing up our little guys to mix coverages, zone blitz, and wreak havoc. If they can't exploit that, it'll be a long day for the Sooners.

All in all, this is a tough game to cap and taking a side is more of a crap shoot IMO. Like Gregg said above, it should be another low scoring affair and I'm anticipating the total as the under might be the best bet here.

Would like to hear Roger's opinion as well.

"SOME PRETTY BASIC COACHING FUNDAMENTALS NEEDED TO BEAT OU"...

now that's some funny chit! for all those mack brown/texas haters...you don't need basic coaching fundamentals to beat ou...you need to line up and smash them in the mouth every play...the team that does that the most will win this game...but since I'm from ATX and a little biased you don't want to hear it...I think texas has a lot better of a chance this year than they did last year and that game came down to one play...this years texas team has more speed and a stronger defense...they could have lost last week in a classic case of 'looking past your opponent'...but they found a way to win and two big defensive plays saved that game...OU just doesnt look as dominating as they have in the past...sure they are still undefeated...but they haven't gotten to this game by blowing people out...minus tulsa and utep...in texas' case they are lucky to be undefeated after the scare last week and I think they will come out a lot more focused and ready to prove they belong...especially the offensive side of the ball...those seniors do not want to lose to ou again...simms will have a lot to prove on a national front...he is a better qb then most give him credit for...following after a famous daddy must be tough...but I think he shines saturday...with regards to the total...I think too many big plays will put up a lot of pts...too much talent on both sides of the ball on both teams to keep this low scoring...I think this game will be in the mid 50's to low 60's...unlike last year... ;)

Roger,

SIA (per covers.com) has the total at 35. Wow, that's really low! I might have to jump on that with you as well. If both team's D creates TO's or puts themselves in good field position, I can see the score going over that total with ease.

come on felonious i want to hear a prediction from you on this game:D I mean I know you think UT will win this game so just say it. ;) guys i have only been betting college football for a few years and i canat recall ever seeing a college total at 35. i saw it on covers what you were talking about felonious but then i went to sia where i have an account and there is no total posted. i have to think this is a mistake bc there is no way the total could be this low. do you guys really think it is 35 or is this a mistake on covers.com?

txag,

I did the same thing you did. Saw 35 at covers and said to myself, "damn, I don't think I've ever seen a college total that low." I later went to SIA and didn't see one though so maybe it was just a slight on their part.

We'll see soon.

yeah, felonious its a mistake bc i see they have one on vegasinsider and it is 46. that is more like it. I think this one goes under, what about you? as for the side, im taking ou just so i can root against you guys.:thefinger come on i know you bet agaisnt the ags for the same reason. i think these teams are pretty even (im sure you have heard this way too much)but until chrissy and mack can prove to me they can win a big game ill take the sooners and the better coach.

No rain on Saturday. Bad weather is moving out tomorrow, sunny and low 80's at kickoff. Weather won't be a problem. Bottom line, this game comes down to turnovers. Whatever team protects the ball, wins the game. They are so even all the way around.....it's going to come down to a fluke or gadget play that makes the difference. I'm rooting for UT, but locking OU in a 10pt teaser with Colorado and Missouri.

Good Luck to all,
Mr. Wizard

Besides two years ago and a couple other instances, this is usually a very entertaining game. I will be in attendance but definately won't have money on this one. I am huge longhorn fan and have always found it beneficial to not wager on Texas games and I have even extended that to not wagering on OU or Texas A&M games (with the only exceptions being VTech this year and OU in the National Championship vs Fla St). With these two teams ranked #2 and #3, both undefeated, with the history and tradition of this rivalry playing in the neutral boudaries of the Cotton Bowl, Simms and Hybl playing point guard of the offenses.....WHY WOULD YOU WASTE YOUR TIME TRYING TO CAP THIS ONE? There are other games this week with much more value in them.

I would stay away and just enjoy an awesome fought game between two programs that are back in the elite spotlight. Texas wins in a close, low scoring game is my prediction.....but the prediction comes from the heart. I can honestly say that I have never thought Texas would lose to OU. Good luck to all who do decide to play the game.

It's so hard to cap this game every yr. But it seems the winner goes in streaks. That really does'nt provide any valuble angles though. My opinion is the doubt that can creep in a teams mind after a big play for the oposition. I think the Sooners are a little tougher in the face of adversity than this Texas team. I believe this starts with the HC's and goes down from there. I like the Sooners to win outright again.

PS: Kid I hope you start posting your MLB plays for us all. (kids been red hot lately) see you at the game kid and BOOMER SOONER BABY!
