For those interested, I am going to write my earl prognosis of the Pac. My picks are not in this thread and wont be posted until wednesday or friday

Pac-10 has 10 teams in the Saggarin top 59 ratings- What does this mean...jacksh$t, i think those ratings are meaningless

However the PAC-10 is as deep 1-10 as it has ever been

early ranking of pac

1.Ore- Top of this conferance is not as solid as years past.Ducks scared me agaisnt FS but won the game and are the most complete team in the pac

2. Wash-Beat Mich in Ann Arbor...oops nice coaching Rick......sloppy as hell against bad sjsu team

3. WSU-BIG BIG BIG TEST ON THEM SATURDAY AT OHIO ST, see if they are for real or taken advantage of easier schedule
==============================================
ALL BELOW ARE VERY VERY SIMLIAR IN RANKS AND MAY FINSH TIED

4. USC- Will Carson ever be a good QB?NO..Troy Polamlu is awesome

5. UCLA- Bye Bye Cory..Hello Freshman Olsen

6. ASU- Best Defense in Pac by far...fastest secondary in country maybe..Pac-10 player ofyear DE Terrell Suggs will go pro after this year...horrible qb situation at present time..will be resolved and this program features almost all sophs and freshmen..give these boys a year or two before they are a top 10 national teamshould have a 6-1 start to year before road game vs ore (2-1 now then at sdsu,UNC,Stanford,Ore St)

7. AZ-Havent played a game yet. NAU is 1AA and Farmer couldnt run against them. This may be a great team and may have best LB unit is country--UTAH and a trip to Madison awaits

8. OSU- Havent seen anything out of them...looked sloppy at Temple...Nice DB'S

9. CAL- 2-0..So what...Baylor and NMSU...hope Boeller can play 4 quarters early saturday morning at Mich St

10. Stan- Winless at BC....Want to see them with a starting qb...dont think thye are a very good tem this year...but stanford always surprises me

Pac-10 will continue to do well in OOC games....Big-10-Pac-10 features two more games this weekend...of course they are in big-10 turfs again

Surprised you have the Beavers that low. But that final vs Temple was misleading. Rushing yardage was pretty even.

GL. Enjoy your insights.

Think that Cal-Stanford-ASU are a cut below that middle group of
UA-UCLA-SC-OSU

Not completely sold on ASU defense as you are. They were terrible last year vs the pass. Fortunately for them their schedule allows them about a month and a half before seeing a truly great balanced/passing offensive team (Nebraksa couldn't pass against my flag football team). C Fla was a small test but second long road trip in as many weeks and playing in 110 heat did them in, in the second half.

Big weekend for the Pac with:
Wazzu @ Ohio St
Cal @ Mich St
SC @ Col
UA hosting Utah

2-2 straight up would be good with 3-1/4-0 ATS superior.
Especially considering that all 4 are dogs!
Personally think that SC is the best play (followed by UA) but waiting until later in the week for final analysis.

the ucf game was a good test for asu d...it was about 80 degrees in tempe so the heat wasnt a factor for ucf...you may be right asu wont be tested seriously through the air until they travel to oregon. That being said, they are in hte 20's in defense agaisnt teh run so far this year and have played nebraskas not too bad.... Cant wait to see the osu-wsu game and the ariz utah game

few thoughts,

Stanford
Kyle Matter is the real deal, the experience will do him good later this season. Defense wont hold up in the Pac-10. Too much youth.

UCLA
I was pissed when Toledo pulled Paus....for a minute! Olsen played well in his limited time. D played well but weren't challenged downfield like they will be in conf play.

Cal
2-0 is a big deal! This team played a tough schedule early last year and lost all their confidence when they started poorly. This team needed early results this year or they would have tanked on the new coach.

Need to look at more stats on the other Pac10 teams but your analysis gives me an excellent overview. Thanks!!

As I said before, I am a student at ASU, and this is what I have to say.
First, we just outplayed UCF. It was raining out, (pouring at one point) and it was only about 80 out, which should have been an advantage to UCF.
Second, watch to see who Dirk Koetter starts this week, Walter or Christensen. Walter was the 16th highest rated QB out of high school, and he lived up to his billing last week. He looks a lot more comfortable in the pocket and has probably one of the best arms in NCAA football. He made a pass to McDonald that went 40 yards but he just flicked his wrist. He is also a moves well for his size (6'5").Christiansen is fast (4.6 speed) but he looks like he has no confidence in his ability to read the defense. Since he scrambles so well, he hikes it, waits about a second, and flushes the pocket. I have a lot more confidence in Walter right now. Koetter says both QB's will play, but hopefully he will name Walter the starter. If so, ASU is a great play at -5. Even with Christiansen, it is still a big play for me. They played SDSU at Sun Devil last year and destroyed them, and their defense is VASTLY improved. Their secondary is very good, led by Jason Shivers, who lead the team in tackles as a Freshman last year. They use a 4-2-5 set, and they have 3 really good linebackers that rotate. The DLine is headed by Terrell Suggs, who is an absolute monster. He will be a first round draft pick in 2004. ASU should win this game by 30, but should and actually doing are 2 different thing. I am going to look into it further, and will report back in terms of units I am going to wager...

Take USC over Colorado this weekend. USC should win by 2-3 touchdowns! I think the 2 best teams in Pac 10 play are USC and Washington St.

Why do you think so highly of Arizona? I am thinking of taking Utah -3 over Arizona. WOuld appreciate you telling me why you think AU is better than Utah. Thanks in advance.
