Jack e-mailed me threatening to pull my contract as I haven't had enough posts lately. I'm paid on a per post contract, rather than a quality of post basis....i blame my attorneys, but whatever, I signed the fcking thing.

there has been some really terrible posts lately....this place is being dumbed down on so many levels.

so as a group we need to man and woman up.

let's talk about the sorites paradox as it's applicable to not only nature and material items, but to philosophical discussions you may have internally with the different voices in your head.

Is a bale of hay still a bale of hay if you remove one straw? If so, is it still a bale of hay if you remove another straw? If you continue this way, you will eventually deplete the entire bale of hay, and the question is: at what point is it no longer a bale of hay? While this may initially seem like a superficial problem, it penetrates to fundamental issues regarding how we define objects.

using these fundamentals, it seems obvious how you can use this to tighten leaks in your handicapping.

The standard, traditional bale of hay is 2' x 4' x 2' and weighs between 125-130 pounds depending on when it was cut and baled (moisture).

So as you remove single straws, you'll want to keep that bale on a scale - once it drops under 125 pounds, you no longer have a bale.

When referencing Sorites, you want to start with an undefinied measurement like a heap, a mound, or a pile - where it isn't a standard unit of measure.

Glad I could help solve that for you.

It's a completely relevant paradox to sports and some are missing the point

Lets take baseball for example

Sabbath is is -170 over whoever

That's the listed line

You need to determine a true line to handicap this contest....in his previous start he threw 120 pitches and most of them stressful pitches..so when is he no longer CC.....-170 in your opinion is a correct line for a healthy rested cc vs his opponent...but like the bales of hay if you remove effectiveness or individuals pieces of hay in the example when is cc no longer the cc you know....you determine that too much has been removed and a fair line is -145....hence you find value in the + 160 for his opponent.
