Carolina at Philadelphia (1, 41)

The Philadelphia Eagles will look to snap their six-game losing skid when they welcome the Carolina Panthers on Monday night. With the outcome of last Sunday's game against the Redskins no longer in doubt, LeSean McCoy carried the ball in the waning moments and suffered a concussion that could sideline him versus the Panthers. McCoy and QB Michael Vick have yet to practice this week and will likely watch rookies Bryce Brown and Nick Foles continue in their place. Carolina squandered an 11-point lead with five minutes remaining in regulation en route to a 27-21 overtime loss to NFC South rival Tampa Bay last Sunday. The Eagles have failed to cover in their last five games overall.

Carolina Panthers at Philadelphia Eagles (+1, 41)

Panthers? play for Rivera vs. Eagles? tank for Reid

One look at the spread for this one tells you just how much faith oddsmakers have in the Eagles. It?s about as much faith as Philadelphia has in head coach Andy Reid right now. Reid?s seat is an inferno and a loss to Carolina on Monday Night Football would burn that mother to the ground. The local media is all over the Walrus for playing his starters last week when the game was long out of reach, leading to LeSean McCoy?s concussion in the fourth quarter. Don?t expect Andy?s guys to play for him in any quarter Monday.

Despite their 2-8 record, the Panthers have been a tough out for opponents this season. Carolina has come close to some big upsets, getting outscored by just under six points per game, and has suffered six losses by six or fewer points this season. Rivera is expected to stick out the rest of the season and will rally his troops for a big national TV stage.

--------------------------

Panthers (2-8) @ Eagles (3-7)?Not much to choose from here, with both head coaches possible lame ducks, but you have underdog with big edge under center (Newton over Foles). Carolina lost seven of last eight games, blowing 10-point lead with 5:00 left at home last week; they?re 3-0 as road underdogs this year, losing away games by 6-1-2 points, with only win in last road game, 21-13 at Washington. Visitor covered Carolina?s last eight games. Eagles lost last six games, giving up 31.8 ppg in losing all four games since bye, when they fired their DC. Shanahan had been 3-21-1 as home favorite before his Skins walloped Philly 31-6 last week, that?s how far Eagles have fallen, in what are obviously Reid?s last weeks running club. NFC South underdogs are 9-3 vs spread, 9-1 on road; NFC East favorites are 3-13 vs spread, 2-8 at home. Four of five Eagle home games went over the total. National TV audience should extract better effort than these teams have been producing lately.

MNF- Carolina 24 - PHILADELPHIA 20?It?s hard to go with Philly, which has lost
6 straight and is 1-9 vs. the spread this season, with three wins by 1, 1 & 2
points, with all of those victories with veteran Michael Vick (check status) at the
controls. In his first pro start last week, QB Nick Foles played like a rookie, with
2 ints., 3 fumbles (0 lost), and 4 sacks. Meanwhile, 2-8 Carolina coming very
close most games, including last week?s 27-21 OT loss vs. the red-hot
Buccaneers. Six of the Panthers? eight losses have been by 6 points or fewer.
Eagles 0-6 when favored TY and now -14 in turnovers.

Monday Night Football: Panthers at Eagles

Carolina Panthers at Philadelphia Eagles (2.5, 40.5)

Two teams with lofty aspirations at the onset of the season will meet on Monday night with little on the line - aside from the potential employment of their respective head coaches. The Philadelphia Eagles will look to snap their six-game losing skid when they welcome the Carolina Panthers to the City of Brotherly Love. Long-time coach Andy Reid has been taken to task in the local newspapers and sports talk shows after the Eagles went through the motions in a 31-6 loss to NFC East-rival Washington on Sunday.

Carolina squandered an 11-point lead with five minutes remaining in regulation en route to a 27-21 overtime loss to NFC South rival Tampa Bay. The loss prompted many in the local media to pepper coach Ron Rivera with questions about his job security. With former general manager Marty Hurney getting the boot earlier in the season, Rivera will likely need a strong finish to improve his standing.

TV: 8:30 p.m. ET, ESPN.

LINE: Panthers -2.5 O/U: 40.5

WEATHER: Forecasts are calling for temperatures in the high-30s with partly cloudy skies. Winds will blow out of the west at 5 mph.

ABOUT THE PANTHERS (2-8): Cam Newton has come under fire during his sophomore season - both for his performance and his perceived indifference to it all. The former Heisman Trophy winner is struggling, but could find the waters smooth against a battered Eagles pass defense. Newton has formed a nice bond with tight end Greg Olsen, who has scored in two of his last three games versus Philadelphia.

ABOUT THE EAGLES (3-7): With the outcome of last Sunday's game no longer in doubt, LeSean McCoy carried the ball in the waning moments and suffered a concussion that could sideline him versus the Panthers. McCoy and quarterback Michael Vick have yet to practice this week and will likely watch rookies Bryce Brown and Nick Foles continue in their place. Foles tossed interceptions on his first two possessions versus Washington and the game quickly unraveled.

TRENDS:

* Over is 6-1-1 in Eagles? last eight home games.
* Over is 4-1-1 in Eagles' last six Monday games.
* Panthers are 1-4 ATS in their last five meetings.
* Eagles are 0-5 ATS in their last five games overall.

EXTRA POINTS:

1. Rivera was a linebackers coach under Reid in Philadelphia from 1999-2003. In addition, Carolina defensive coordinator Sean McDermott held the same post with the Eagles after Jim Johnson passed away in 2009.

2. Philadelphia has defeated Carolina in three straight since falling to the Panthers in the 2004 NFC Championship game.

3. Should McCoy sit out, Brown would make his first start since his senior year in high school.

------------------

Tale of the tape: Panthers at Eagles

Take a quick glance at the tale of the tape for Monday night?s showdown between the Carolina Panthers and Philadelphia Eagles.

Offense

Cam Newton has come under fire during his sophomore season - both for his performance and his perceived indifference to it all. The former Heisman Trophy winner is struggling, but could find the waters smooth against a battered Eagles pass defense. Newton has formed a nice bond with tight end Greg Olsen, who has scored in two of his last three games versus Philadelphia. The Panthers are an uncharacteristic 16th in rushing yardage after racking up more yards on the ground than any team in the NFL since 2008.

With the outcome of last Sunday's game no longer in doubt, LeSean McCoy carried the ball in the waning moments and suffered a concussion that will sideline him versus the Panthers. McCoy and quarterback Michael Vick (concussion) will watch rookies Bryce Brown and Nick Foles continue in their place. Foles tossed interceptions on his first two possessions versus Washington and the game quickly unraveled after that. In addition, wide receiver Jason Avant (strained hamstring) and running back Chris Polk (sprained toe) also will not play against the Panthers.

Edge: Panthers

Defense

Panthers DE Greg Hardy, who has seven sacks this season, is dealing with an undisclosed illness and is considered questionable. Linebacker Jordan Senn is doubtful with an ankle injury for a stop unit that ranks in the middle of the pack in most defensive categories.

The Eagles' pass defense has surrendered 11 touchdown passes and hasn?t recorded an interception over the past four weeks. Opposing QBs have rung up a gaudy 143.6 passer rating against Philadelphia over that span.

Edge: Panthers

Special teams

After firing special teams coach Brian Murphy and replacing him with Richard Rodgers, the Panthers? special teams struggled again Sunday in the loss to Tampa Bay. The unit failed on a fake punt attempt, and Captain Munnerlyn lost a fumble on a punt return in the contest. After making his first seven attempts this season, including a 5-for-5 performance at Chicago, kicker Justin Medlock has missed his last three field-goal attempts.

The Eagles don't have a kickoff return longer than 31 yards or a punt return longer than 20 yards this season. Punter Mat McBriar is tied for fifth in the league in with a 48.5-yard gross average, but the special teams unit as a whole has been downright awful in Philadelphia and it doesn?t look like things will improve this season.

Edge: Tie. Both teams are equally as bad.

Word on the street

?A lot of the players on defense have been turned over since I left, so I won?t have as great a feel for their defensive personnel as I would have. But as far as a general feel for what the atmosphere is going to be like and what they like to do, yes.? ? Panthers defensive coordinator Sean McDermott after being asked if his previous experience serving on the Philadelphia coaching staff will give his defense an advantage Monday night.

?These guys are all competitors and that?s one of the inherent problems with concussion management ? they want to play. They know the consequences and everything, but they want to play. We know he?s anxious to go out there and play but we have to be careful with these guys.? ? Eagles trainer Rick Burkholder on Michael Vick?s concussion

Your Monday freebie is the Over in the Panthers-Eagles game.

I know the Over stats I am about to spout to you are based on the Eagles having both Michael Vick and LeSean McCoy in their backfield, but I still believe this total is very low for a pair of teams playing with nothing left to lose.

Philly is 4-1 Over the total this season at Lincoln Field Financial, and even though they scored just 6 points in their 31-6 loss at Washington last weekend with rookie Nick Foles under center, the combination of a QB just letting it rip and the fact that QB was picked off twice last week should lead to some quick points tonight in the City of Brotherly Love.

Carolina has played Over the total in their last pair of games, and three of their last four overall, and at 2-8 they definitely have no reason to play conservative football tonight.

My call is for this game to be played a little looser than you would normally see had the two teams been in playoff contention.

Take the Over in the Panthers-Eagles game tonight.

1* CAROLINA-PHILADELPHIA OVER

_________________________

Carolina Panthers vs. Philadelphia Eagles
My how the mighty have fallen, as a money-burning Philadelphia Eagles team (3-7, 1-8-1 ATS) picked by many to go to the Super Bowl before this season started now turns up as a small home underdog to the Carolina Panthers (2-8, 4-6 ATS) on Monday night. The Eagles easily have the worst ATS record in all of football and they will now be without both quarterback Michael Vick and running back LeSean McCoy for this contest as they are both out with concussions. The Panthers may have just two wins, but at least they have continued to play hard, which cannot be said about Philadelphia, and Carolina has played its best football this year on the road. Catch the action from Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, PA at 8:35 ET on ESPN.

Even before the big injuries to Vick and McCoy, the Eagles were probably the most overrated team in football, as this is a team that is incredibly only four points away from being 0-10 right now! They have lost six straight games since a 19-17 win over the New York Giants in Week 4 and it now looks like Coach Andy Reid's long tenure in Philadelphia is over as he will most likely be fired after the season. The Eagles are apparently very well aware that they are playing for a lame duck coach as they have given virtually zero effort on the field in recent weeks. Their most recent debacle was a 31-6 beatdown absorbed at Washington last week where the offense produced a measly 257 total yards and the defense allowed Robert Griffin III to achieve a perfect QB Rating by completing 14-of-15 passes for 200 yards and four touchdowns with no interceptions, and that was with the Redskins reining him in with a huge lead! If the defense has given up, then the Eagles have very little hope of winning games with Nick Foles and Bryce Brown filling in for Vick and McCoy respectively on a team that ranks second to last in the NFL in scoring offense at 16.2 points per game, ahead of only the Kansas City Chiefs.

Now the Panthers may be a disappointing 2-8, but six of their eight losses this year have been by six points or less, with the most recent one coming in overtime last week 27-21 to the red-hot Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Furthermore, that was their second loss by six points to Tampa Bay this year and the other four close losses came vs. the Atlanta Falcons, Chicago Bears, Seattle Seahawks and Dallas Cowboys, so this team would have a much better record if the schedule was a bit easier. Moreover, Carolina is 3-1 ATS on the road this year where it has its close calls vs. the Falcons and Bears, as well as its second win of the year at Washington the last time the Panthers hit the road. They are now facing a weak opponent for a change and the Carolina defense, which has played very well in recent weeks, should have little trouble controlling this Philadelphia offense.

Interestingly, the Panthers are 8-1 ATS in their last nine games as a road favorite. Carolina is also 5-1 ATS in its last six road games vs. teams with losing home records. The Eagles are 5-16-1 ATS in their last 22 games following a straight up loss.

Pick: Over 40.5

Not that the woes of Andy Reid and the Philadelphia Eagles (+3, Over/Under 40.5) have been flying under the radar, but now things could turn uglier as they come under the national spotlight. A potentially hostile home crowd awaits them Monday night (8:20 PM EST, ESPN) with the Eagles mired in the longest losing streak of Reid's tenure - which appears to be nearing an end - as they face the Carolina Panthers in a matchup of the NFC's worst teams.

While Carolina (2-8 SU, 4-6-0 ATS) owning the conference's worst record may be somewhat surprising, it's more shocking Philadelphia (3-7 SU, 1-8-1 ATS) has sunk so far after going into this fall considered by many a Super Bowl contender. That certainly remained the case after the Eagles were 3-1 following a win over the defending champion New York Giants, but they have since lost six in a row - the last four by at least 13 points. "I don't know how it can get much worse," tight end Brent Celek said. "It makes me sick."

This is the most consecutive defeats in a single season for the franchise since dropping its final seven games of 1994, five years before Reid took over the reins. "I know we're letting the fans down and the city down," Reid said. "I completely understand that. I completely understand how they feel on this. I feel it from the football team, our coaches and players. There are no excuses for it." Considering the high expectations entering this season, particularly after owner Jeffrey Lurie said another 8-8 season like last year would be "unacceptable," Reid's departure by season's end appears to be a near certainty.

Late in the Eagles' last home game - a 38-23 defeat to archrival Dallas on Nov. 11 - fans behind the Cowboys' bench unrolled a banner that read, "Andy, Quit, Your Team Has!" Reid made it clear earlier this week that he won't resign. "I think that'd be a cop-out," he said. "That's not how I see things. That's not the way I'm wired. We're going to keep battling and do it as a team. I'm not going to tell the guys one thing and then do the other."

The animosity toward Reid in Philadelphia only grew last Sunday, but not just because the team lost 31-6 at Washington. Reid let LeSean McCoy carry the ball in the final two minutes of a game that was out of hand, and the star runner suffered a concussion that could keep him out of this game. Neither McCoy nor Michael Vick, concussed in the loss to Dallas, have practiced this week. While McCoy sitting out would give Bryce Brown his first start since his senior year of high school in 2009, fellow rookie Nick Foles will make a second straight start if Vick can't return.

Foles threw interceptions on Philadelphia's first two possessions last Sunday and finished 21 of 46 for 204 yards. He was sacked four times behind an injury-plagued offensive line which has surrendered 33, third-most in the NFL entering Week 12. Panthers coach Ron Rivera was Reid's linebackers coach from 1999-2003 and also could be on the way out. Even Rivera said this week he didn't know if he'll keep his job beyond this season based on recent conversations with team owner Jerry Richardson. "You can't worry about who is going to go and who is going to stay. That is for the front office to decide," defensive end Charles Johnson said.

"But I'm going to fight with coach until the end. No matter what he does I'm going to ride with him." Six of the Panthers' losses have been by six points or fewer, and they've led in the fourth quarter in four of them. They blew an 11-point lead in the final five minutes of regulation last Sunday in a 27-21 overtime loss to Tampa Bay. "It's tough when you lose (because) things aren't as good as they are when you win, obviously," said Rivera, 8-18 as Carolina's coach. "Food doesn't taste right. It's difficult to communicate with people looking them in the eye and talking to them."

Quarterback Cam Newton said close losses have been "the story of the season." The former Heisman Trophy winner has thrown for nine touchdowns and rushed for four after combining for 35 as a rookie last season. Newton now faces an Eagles pass defense which has allowed a combined 143.6 passer rating over the past four weeks, surrendering 11 touchdown passes and making no interceptions. The Panthers have lost all three meetings since winning at Philadelphia in the 2004 NFC championship game.

?PREGAME NOTES: Good news for Eagles fans here tonight in the City of Brotherly Love is their 10-0 straight-up and against the spread mark in games after taking on the Washington Redskins and a 7-0-1 ATS record in regular season games after scoring 10 of less points in its last contest. Carolina counters with a spot-less 5-0 ATS mark in games following back-to-back SU and ATS losses when squaring off against a sub. 500 foe. Further complicating matters is Andy Reid?s 0-3 SU and ATS career record in Monday night games when tackling a sub .300 opponent.

Monday

Panthers +2? at Eagles: Oh, come on man, do I really have to pick one of these bums? The Panthers have lost seven of their last eight and have notched only two wins the entire season. The Eagles meltdown has been well documented. Andy Reid is gone and he knows it, but might have found one last home victory to close out his run. EAGLES.

--------------------------------------------------------------

Monday

Panthers (NL) at Eagles: The uncertain status of Eagles RB LeSean McCoy kept this game off the board Monday. Philly is already without starting QB Michael Vick and rookie Nick Foles? inexperience showed in his debut at Washington. The Eagles are 3-7 and even the baseball Phillies have a more recent win. And recall that their 3 wins have been by a total of just 4 points as they stand 1-8-1 ATS.

Carolina?s record is even worse at 2-8 but they continue to play hard. All 8 losses have been to teams in playoff contention and only 5-5 Dallas does not have a winning record. We can expect a healthier Carolina team to put forth the greater effort.

CAROLINA -3 over Philadelphia
8:20 p.m.Our FREE PICK record is 52-34 (61%) since September 1st.
Two of the most disappointing teams in the league and a pair of lame duck head coaches square off tonight in Monday Night Football, but the situation for the Eagles is much more dire. Philly comes in on a six-game losing streak, has covered just one game all season and is 3-7 straight up, but that record could be a lot worse since the combined margin of all those wins is four points. They're down to a back-up QB in Nick Foles that has looked completely lost and one of their lone threats on offense, LeSean McCoy, is doubtful with a concussion. The offense has yet to top 24 points this season and since dismissing its defensive coordinator, Philly has allowed 30, 28, 38 and 31 points. The Panthers are at least still showing some sort of fight, going 4-6 ATS against one of the toughest schedules in the league. If the Panthers jump ahead early -- and we think they will -- this crowd is going to turn ugly. Lay the short number on the road.

Philadelphia over Carolina by 2 (Monday)
The Nick Foles era got off to a bad start with a 31-6 road loss to Washington. A
rookie quarterback behind a makeshift line is not a good combination for the
Eagles, who have dropped six in a row. And now LeSean McCoy could be out with
a concussion. But if there?s a coach on even a hotter seat than Andy Reid it is Ron
Rivera, whose Panthers have lost seven of their last eight despite leading in the
fourth quarter in five of those games. Cam Newton, for all his talent, is 8-18 SU
as an NFL starter. Carolina has held opposing offenses to 21 points or fewer during
regulation six consecutive times. PHILADELPHIA 23-21.

-------------

here was need for a Monday night ?fl ex game? on the NFL
schedule this is it. Little did the NFL brass ever imagine when they penciled
this game into the Monday night schedule that the LAST PLACE Eagles
would be hosting the LAST PLACE Panthers. If things weren?t bad enough
for Philadelphia, the loss of RB LeSean McCoy and possibly TE Brent Celek
(concussions) adds to the laundry list of injuries that have beset this team
this season. An offensive line starting four backups is not what rookie QB
Nick Foles needs to hone his skills (check status on Michael Vick). Carolina?s
woes result from a lack of production, starting with QB Cam Newton (9
TD?s, 10 INT?s, 79.0 rating). Good news for Eagles fans is their 10-0 SUATS
mark in games after rumbling with the Redskins and a 7-0-1 ATS record
in regular games after scoring 10 of less points in its last contest. Carolina
counters with a 9-1 ATS log as a dog against .333 or less opponents and a 5-0
ATS mark in games off back-to-back SUATS loss when squaring off against a
sub. 500 foe. Further complicating matters is Andy Reid?s 0-3 SUATS career
record in Monday night games when tackling a sub .300 opponent. We?ll
do our best to sort through this mess after the injury reports are offi cial.
Until then, we recommend that you proceed AYOR ? At Your Own Risk.

CAROLINA over *PHILADELPHIA by 1
It?s a Monday Night Misery Bowl! Haven?t had one of those in a while, right? While he is
in town, Panthers? head coach Ron Rivera might interview w/Eagles? management for
the next Philly defensive coordinator position, right? After all, he coached in Philly for four
years under Andy Reid and is sure to be fired by Panthers? management at the end of this
season, if not before. If he isn?t too distracted, then the 2-8 SU Panthers actually have
a fine chance to become 3-8 SU because the 3-7 SU Eagles are a mess. Veteran teams
that were supposed to be better than their record rarely jump up and play well when the
handwriting is on the wall and the opponent isn?t some good and sexy side that they can
upset. It?s only the Panthers. Yet Carolina has scored more points than the Eagles, have
allowed fewer points than the Eagles, but are nevertheless the underdog against a Philly
team now 12-21 ATS since the Monday Night win against Washington a few years ago
when the media told the world how Michael Vick was the best thing that ever happened,
and an invincible conqueror of everything. CAROLINA, 23-22.

Carolina 23 - PHILADELPHIA 20 - (8:35 - ESPN) -- Unquestionably, these two
have to be the biggest disappointments in the NFL. An unfathomable 6 straight
losses for the Eagles, while the Panthers are on 1-7 SU run. Philly in off allowing
'Skin QB Griffin to complete 14-of-15, & now stands at 1-8-1 ATS, with only cover
by mere 1? pts. No Vick LW, but expected back for this. Cam just 9/10 for the
year, & Carolina in off allowing 24-yd TD pass in final 0:12, before losing in OT.
Panthers 9-1 ATS dogs vs <.333 foes. As Roger says: "somebody has to win".

--------------------

*Carolina 24 - PHILADELPHIA 20?It?s hard to go with Philly, which has lost
TV?ESPN
