I had decided to try a new tactic for March Madness. After having another moderately successful college hoops season betting mostly small parlays, up > 20 units on .5 unit parlays, I decided to play a more "professional" way with my tourney picks. So I take five sides I loved for the opening Thursday slate and bet 2 units each on em straight. 0-fer later, that's 0-5, I said "phuck that" I'm going back to what works for ME! So I go 8-3 on picks the second day and win 9 units having risked less than 5 - betting all two and three teamers with those 11 plays - used most of them twice. Almost even for March Madness, and back to my old ways.
My second "losing" incident for the tourney occurred at one book. I played gobs of small parlays at OLY for the 2nd round Saturday only (many 1st half bets and props on team scores that I believed to be good value plays, but not great). Well, they were indeed pretty good plays but the gods of "parlay pairings" were DEFINITELY not smiling on me at that out. I LOST a unit there despite going 29-17-2 on these particular picks. The parlay players lament is results like this where you hit over 60% yet lose $ (I went 2-1 on 9 parlays - thank u very little).
But before u start the "flat bet bigot" diatribe about how bad parlays are - stay tuned!
At Aces Gold, and several other outs that all offer reduced vig for Saturday and/or Sunday, I went on a "great/lucky picking" run of 28-4 (counting plays twice when I played them on two parlays ) and won ? of my two teamers and 6/8 of my three teamers for a 35.8 unit smashing for the 2nd round weekend at these outs. These were the only plays I increased my units on for the tourney - due to their relative strength by my capping. YAHOO!!!
I followed it up with a 41-12-2 (again counting twice if I played them twice) record the next week & weekend (including golf matchups, $lines on hoops(including a couple nice > +160 dogs), "bush" hoops [ 3 of the L's were on the ladies - kind of mirrors my life in that regard ], NIT, props, NBA - I was pretty hot and delved into sports I usually avoid). 46-20-4 the next week and 33-7 the F4 weekend. Kept smashin' em but also kept to playing mostly small stakes parlays and a few modest straight bets when I couldn't parlay (due to line shopping, book rules, or props). I turned a good season into a great one during the dance!!!! Won enough to almost offset my Vegas trip(s) losses for the year! I luv that town but got killed at the tables this yr (too damn much VIG to fight)!
For those RARE times you get on rolls like this (this was my best ever - by far ) it REALLY PAYS to be willing to be a parlay bettor! But then maybe I was just LUCKY! When u stay cold though, u need to avoid them as they SUCK BIG TIME!
