Two months before NFL training camps open, the New England Patriots are the heavy favorite to win the 2008 Super Bowl.
BetOnline released its odds for the NFL?s 32 teams to win Super Bowl XLII, and the Patriots are way out in front at 3?-1 (+350).
Other favorites to win the NFL championship at BetOnline include the San Diego Chargers at (7-1), the Indianapolis Colts (8-1), the Denver Broncos (14-1), the Seattle Seahawks (18-1), and the Chicago Bears (20-1).
Many feel the Patriots deserve to be early, and clear, favorites for two reasons: they were close last season, having lost the AFC Championship game 38-34 to eventual Super Bowl champion Indianapolis Colts; and they have added some impact players during the off-season.
As well, the Patriots still have some key players, particularly Super Bowl MVP QB Tom Brady, from the teams that won three championships between 2002 and 2005.
Although New England choked in the AFC championship last season, losing a 21-3 lead, the fact is the only thing between them and a Super Bowl berth was an intercepted pass with 17 seconds remaining.
But it?s the acquisitions of WR Randy Moss from the Oakland Raiders and Pro Bowl LB/DE Adalius Thomas from the Baltimore Ravens that have pushed the Patriots into the role of favorite.
The idea of Moss joining forces with Brady, Thomas, Bill Belichick, fellow wide receiver newcomers Donte Stallworth and Wes Welker is enough to put the Patriots at the top of the list.
